ParticipantHi
I’ve the same issue and due to the large number of historical recurring events which have been converted to exclusions it is having a significant performance hit when editing the Events – 10 minutes to pull up the event post. I note there is a fix in the latest version 4.4.14 July 2017. On applying the update whilst so far no exclusions have been generated for expired events since the update I am still left with thousands of old events which have been converted to exclusions and are not cleaned up by any of the provided archiving/deletions routines.
It can be done manually however is a large task. Is there any way that these can be cleaned via SQL which I’m familiar with and happy to run however as I don’t have knowledge of the schema don’t want to attempt. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

MemberHi, David. My apologies for the delayed response here.
Please try our Recurring Events Cleanup Tool extension and let me know if it helps at all.

ParticipantInstalling Cleanup Utility
Hi Cliff,So as suggested I tried to install the cleanup routine. Feel free to correct me if I’ve done something wrong.
Process Followed on Dev system:-
-Installed Recurring Events Cleanup Tool – not displayed in Tools
-Events Plugins updated to latest version
-Noticed that available update for Events Calendar Pro shows in WP Admin Dashboard but not Plugins section (see screenshots of Plugin Page and Dashboard page showing inconsistencies with version upgrade availability.)
-Using dashboard to install updated plugins I received a message that both Events and Pro version deactivated due to error “Plugin File Does not exist” See screenshot
-Tried again after upgrading to WP 4.8 same result.
-Restored system
-Deleted both plugins completely from Plugins page
-Reinstalled latest versions 4.5.9 & Pro 4.4.15 – both appeared to install OK
-Installed Recurring Events Cleanup Tool, no errors reported – same issue – not displayed in WP Admin Tools
– Also tried using 4.3.4 Plugin with tool with same issue. The problem I have is that it only on more recent versions that the ability to manually delete exclusions on the post is provided. For performance reasons I have had to regress to Calendar v4.3.4 and Pro 4.3.4 which are the most recent versions, which does at least allow the opening of these events with a large number of exclusions, without crashing or hanging the system. As these exclusions were created by a bug in your software, which I did report sometime ago under this item “Recurring Event Series Performance and sort issues” – although at the time it was not obvious to me that exclusions were being incorrectly created – then I, and I’m sure many others, would much appreciate a fix for this to be provided under our support agreement. Fixing this manually is a huge issue as the 4.3.4 version does not have the ability to delete the exclusions manually, therefore upgrading to the latest versions will, as previously stated, cause the system to become unusable. It often takes 15 minutes to load one of these Events with erroneous exclusion data, with no certainty it will not crash! There are hundreds in our system.
Cheers

MemberI ran this past one of our developers. They said a cleanup utility is on the team’s to-do list, so I apologize for not being in the know about it before and for the extra effort on your end.
I’ll mark this ticket as Pending Fix, which means this thread should receive a reply once the applicable fix has been released. I cannot guarantee when it will be fixed as it’s in the development team’s hands now. I did pass along its priority for your situation.
I apologize for this issue and appreciate your understanding and patience.

MemberHi David,
We’ve developed an extension to help clean up events (and remove any out-of-bounds exclusions) that were impacted by the previous bug.
Exclusion Cleaner (plugin zip)
Simply upload and install like any other plugin and activate. You should then find if you click on Tools in the main WordPress menu that the following options are available to you:

In your case, it will probably list a number of events from which you can make a selection. This should be useful in ‘repairing’ events you need to update and amend.
I do hope that helps and our apologies for the inconvenience and delay.

ParticipantHi,
I have installed this plugin as per instructions provided. Whilst it appears in the plugins window of the main WP interface when selecting ‘Tools’ nothing appears. Deactivated and reactivated it with no success. Logged in as default admin with full admin privileges.Screenshots attached.

ParticipantHey David, sorry for the trouble there. I wrote this little cleanup tool and cannot recreate this problem, but am happy to figure out the issue so we can hopefully get this working on your site.
To help us troubleshoot, can you please post your site’s complete, un-edited system information to this forum thread? Here’s how to do that → https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/
You may be using outdated versions of The Events Calendar and/or Events Calendar Pro. So updating those things to their most recent version, along with WordPress itself, may be the best bet.
And also please note that we highly recommend making a complete backup of your database before updating plugins on your site, or using a cleanup tool like the one shared here. The chance of any data being erroneously damaged is very low, but it’s better to have a backup and not need it than need a backup and not have it, so please do back up your database now if you haven’t already.
Thanks,
