The Events Calendar 3.0 Preview: Photo View

Can’t get enough of The Events Calendar / Events Calendar PRO 3.0 preview posts? You’re in luck. Following hot on the heels of our week view and map view previews, we’ve got a third one today we’re stoked to share: photo view.

If you haven’t seen our high-level 3.0 preview, you’d want to take a look at that first. Otherwise if you’re interested in photo view specifically…check it out after the jump.

Photo view — like map view — is geared towards the more visually-inclined among us. If you’re the type of person who makes good use of featured images when setting up your events, photo view stands to reward you handsomely: it presents nice, big photos in a prominent view that looks similar to a poster-board. No other frontend view (beyond clicking into the event entry itself) shows images in this level of detail and can come in handy for an number of situations. From your own clever take on the Sgt. Peppers’ album cover to a flyer with event pertinents laid out therein, if you want more detail on the event without having to click into it…photo view is the way to go.

Events automatically make good use of the space — whether they’ve got a featured image attached or not — without the slightest of effort from a site admin. No photos? No problem. Just because this is photo view doesn’t mean it only brings in events with featured images attached. As you can see in the video above, image-less events fit in just as nicely as ones with imagery. (They just lack a bit of…pop).

Viewers on the frontend will read events left-to-right, top-to-bottom. If they resize their browser window, the photo view layout will respond naturally and resize to fit even the smallest of browser windows. And with the Events bar, frontend users can change the date events begin displaying; search to display only events with a given word or phrase in their title/description; or find events near a given geographic location.
