MemberHi Marco,
I can understand that this would be frustrating and confusion over start/end dates when setting up recurring events, just to take one part of what you’re describing, isn’t altogether unusual – so we’d definitely be open to suggestions for improvement here.
That said, some users do indeed have events that span several days and also recur – so we still need to be able to facilitate that.
On a practical level, at least for community submissions, I wonder if a two-pronged approach where you 1) remove the ability to submit recurring events via the existing form and 2) build an alternative, wizard-style interface to coach people through setting up whatever kind of recurring event is typical for your organization might work or at least reduce the amount of manual intervention that is currently falling on your shoulders.
That would involve some fairly extensive customization and may not be feasible – and again all I can really do right now is leave this open to let other members of the community provide any insight based on their own experiences and also to encourage you to put forward any ideas you might have in terms of improving Community Events (or recurring event handling generally) across at tribe.uservoice.com.
Thanks!
Barry
MemberHi Brian,
That’s unusual. Can you confirm you have updated to our most recent (3.1) release and that, in addition to deactivating all other plugins, you have tried reverting to a default, unmodified theme such as Twenty Twelve?
Does doing so resolve this and might this be a conflict with your theme?
Barry
MemberHi Godesana,
We’re sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties and definitely appreciate that this is a bit frustrating.
That particular error can crop up for a number of reasons – if it’s occurrence ties in with adding the snippet to your theme’s functions.php file it could be you inadvertently created an error. If you like, please share your functions.php file via Pastebin or Gist and we’ll take a look and see if anything obvious jumps out. Please do also make sure that you reverted any changes you made to files within the wp-includes directory.
That said, our latest maintenance release is now available and it may be easier to remove any fixes you have applied for this issue and try upgrading – as I believe it should resolve the recurring events dialog problem.
Hope that helps 🙂
Barry
MemberExcellent! Well in that case we’ll go ahead and close this 🙂
If there’s anything else we can help with definitely feel free to create new threads as needed.

Memberif we test with the basic theme bugg persist, so ??
Great, thanks for trying that – but can you confirm that you also deactivated all other plugins, except for those made by Modern Tribe?
Barry
MemberOK, I see what you mean now and that is indeed intentional, I believe, as it will attempt to take you to the next occurring instance of that event (in most cases this is desirable – and also in a sense transparent as the event description etc are shared between all instances of the event and the visitor is redirected without any further action on their part).
If you want to put forward a case for change you can certainly do so at tribe.uservoice.com and this will also allow other users to show their support for the idea. Right now I’m afraid there’s not much else we can offer to help.
Barry
MemberCan we roll back a step?
Quite possible I’m missing something here, but when you refer to “forced 301s” can you provide a little more detail? As far as I’m aware, navigating directly to a recurring instance of an event does not result in any HTTP redirects.
Barry
MemberExcellent!
I’ll go ahead and close this one – of course if there is anything else please don’t hesitate to create a new thread or threads as needed 🙂
September 30, 2013 at 4:26 pm in reply to: event logos not showing up on the event listing page, and not linking to URL #68465Barry
MemberHi – thanks for the reply!
Below is what is currently in the list view (in the theme folder, not the plugin folder)
I’m not sure what you posted there, whether it was some code or an image, but it hasn’t come through. Can I ask you to use an external service like Pastebin, Gist, Dropbox or Droplr to share any non-text items as the forum software we’re using is, unfortunately, subject to a number of limitations.
It doesn’t make sense why I would update “the-events-calendar” instead of the “events-calendar-pro”
Events Calendar PRO builds on The Events Calendar and many of The Events Calendar’s own templates, scripts and stylesheets are still used even after you activate Events Calendar PRO.
In this case, the template we want to override and customize belongs to The Events Calendar. Does that clarify things?
And it hasn’t changed anything 🙁
I suspect from what you’ve written and a quick set of tests against various URLs based on your domain that you didn’t set up the list/single-event.php template correctly. Can you confirm that you have a file at:
wp-content/themes/colorway/tribe-events/list/single-event.php
If so can you share the contents of that file via a service like Pastebin or Gist?
I REALLY liked how it worked before you updated! I shouldn’t have ever updated 🙁
We’re very sad to hear that but if you really want to you can indeed roll things back – please see this FAQ entry – but do be aware that moving back to 2.0.11 or an earlier version will severely limit the amount of support we can provide you with.
Thanks!
Barry
MemberI understand that, but these are quite separate issues and we have to treat and diagnose them as such – this is also why we suggest creating separate threads for separate issues, as it can avoid confusion.
In this case, one issue is the integration of WooSidebars and The Events Calendar. The other (which my troubleshooting suggestion related to) is the issue of events not showing in the main blog loop when you have explicitly set a setting to enable just that.
So, yes, by extension disabling all other plugins will indeed (temporarily) remove the effects of your WooSidebars plugin – but it would also allow us to determine if this is an unfortunate side effect created by another plugin or if it is in fact a facet of our plugin and your theme.
Barry
MemberIf you need to downgrade it is probably best to move back to 2.0.11. Do understand that that will severely limit our ability to offer you support, however.
A strategy for downgrading is as per the link in my last post. I hope that helps – and of course we’re sorry to hear that our 3.x releases aren’t meeting your needs here.
Barry
MemberOK … it does rather feel like I’m looking at a moving target here 🙂
When I looked previously, the output of the widget was as per the classes category. Now it is as per the general upcoming events list which indicates that it is no longer restricted to any particular category.
In either case it seems like it is functioning as expected. I do see that you have additional events on the calendar and these mostly look like recurring instances. Is it possible you have also enabled the show only the first instance of each recurring event setting in the Events → Settings → General admin screen – does disabling this improve the situation?
September 30, 2013 at 3:43 pm in reply to: Venue URL slugs missing when upgrading from Community to PRO #68446Barry
MemberI didn’t actually use the core version without PRO when I tried to replicate this originally.
If I do, however, I still can’t replicate this problem – regardless of whether I publish before I activate PRO or after. I do indeed have Community Events active but not the beta filters plugin: if you think that may be a trigger for what you’re experiencing please try replicating this issue without having it activated.
I don’t have a place to do that (have third party hosting where I cant add another installation) but if you do I’m happy to replicate there
I’m sorry but we can’t provide a replica environment – and supposing we could we would of course need to know what sort of environment you have and be capable of provisioning it – but that is way out of the scope of what we can do for you here on the support forums.
Can you answer my question about the outcome of your initial tests, with only the minimum necessary plugins (The Events Calendar, Facebook Events) and a default, unmodified theme (such as Twenty Twelve) activated were?
Barry
MemberOK – and does switching to a different default template via Events → Settings → Display get you any closer to what you want?
Barry
MemberThe admin screen you need to navigate to is Events → Settings → Display … does that help?
