Participant“It does seem crazy to me that event name is not a standard field in ICAL – ie separate from the location but there we go!!! Expect there is a good reason!” should have read venue name not event name!

ParticipantHi – and thank you! Yes, event status of “featured” so that we can mark some events as “featured” at the time they are uploading, having put this status into the CSV file.
Best wishes.Sally Richardson
ParticipantTurned out to be due to a conflict with part of jetpack. This can be closed!

ParticipantIt is just very odd that the csv file for venues and organisers is accepted for upload without any problem, but not the events file. Actually the latter does have html tags within the content – perhaps that is the problem, now that I think about it further in terms of what the difference might be. I will test.

ParticipantHi – thanks very much but I am worried that we are still talking at cross purposes – isn’t the whole point that manual excerpts retain their html tags?
To quote WordPress.org:
“How to add excerpts to posts
To add an excerpt to a post, simply write one in the Excerpt field under the post edit box. An excerpt can be as short or as long as you wish. Usually, given its purpose, a couple of sentences is fine.-
If adding the excerpt manually, you may use (some) HTML formatting and the tags will not be stripped.”
Or perhaps the clue is in the “some”?
Thanks!

ParticipantHi – I came across the same problem as Chris, which is what led me to make this feature request:
At the time of import, there is a very helpful (in that it explained what was happening) message which says something like:
imported events which have a timezone will use that timezone, but if there is no timezone present then the timezone will be taken from the receiving calendar’s timezone.Just wanted to give you both this background to save Chris doing lots more reading and testing….

ParticipantHi and thanks for your help. Sorry if I was not clear enough but let me explain:
I AM already using manual excerpts. ie “The only solution for now is to use “manual” excerpts if you need to preserve HTML.” because we read these articles a while back and understood the need to use manual excerpts in order to keep the html.
My problem is very specific to the <br> tag. Other tags stay in place and using the manual excerpts works in every way apart from making a new line.
I attach a screen shot of a sample event in admin/edit.
I did test it very carefully before posting the first time – and as I mentioned for example seems to stay put but <br> does not!
I hope I have made this a little clearer now? Are you able to help? How do people start a new line using html to get their events to format nicely? I seems to need a physical carriage return to be used in the Excerpt box as well as the <br> tag but how I can get our csv file to format the excerpt box in this way is somewhat beyond me! I can take advice on that side of things but it is weird that <br> does not get recognised when other tags ARE recognised in this box….
Thank you! Hope you can help?!Sally Richardson
ParticipantHi Andras,
Many thanks indeed, and I can confirm that it now works.Sally Richardson
ParticipantHi – I wanted to let you know that I was able to resolve this by copying the url of the export, and using that instead of the ics file itself. It works fine if I use the url, but not when I try to import the ics file.
So – I can work with this method instead very easily, but it does look like there is a problem you may still want to investigate?

ParticipantHi – isn’t there, however, a major drawback with exporting and importing events between two EC sites using the ical export file and then importing? In particular:
1. If there are tags on the source site’s events, these do not get carried with the ical file?
2. If you have used the excerpt on the source site, to get around the problem of html being stripped out of the description, the excerpt is not carried with the ical feed?I have found that the WordPress Export Tools to Migrate Events Content is the only way to get a proper mirror image but you can’t, as far as I can see, export only eg one category for a custom post type (events). The other problem of course is that it is static.
I see in the requests for new features there is already a request to have an export URL feature (instead of ics file) like Timely do (mentioned by Stephanie) – which immediately takes all of these problems away if you also design it to include all the fields from the source event, not just the standard ics fields.
Would be amazing if this were available OR, as a half way step, to have an alternative file to the ics file which includes all of the fields used by events calendar, not just the ones used in a standard ICS file.
Wanted to bring all of this to Stephanie’s attention before she sets it all up in the way she has described – but this missing information (tags, excerpts etc) might not matter in her set up?
