Hi Tribe.
I’m confused about the current state of affairs. We want to simply display some past events. Eg show a list of the last 5 events that took place before today. Widget and/or shortcode.
On the one hand, we have Geoff on 16th January 2017 saying it is possible :

https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/display-past-events-shortcode/Yes, it is possible to display past events in a shortcode using Events Calendar PRO…
=====
… But the tutorial he links to doesn’t actually tell us how to display the past events as indicated.
9 days later, George tells us it’s not possible at all….

https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/past-event-module/There is unfortunately no shortcode at this time that only shows past events.

Then 1 day later Hunter tells us it’s coming…

https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/past-events-15/We have a feature report aimed to include the ability to display past events using the [tribe_events] shortcode, so I’ve added this forum thread to the report which helps increase attention on the matter.
I unfortunately don’t have a date when this feature will be available,

Now 2 months later, as far as I’m aware, it’s still not possible?…
But yet 3 years ago, in versions 2 and 3, you seemingly had this functionality?
https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/past-event-list/I’m just struggling to see the complexity or reason for not having it?
You have a great widget for displaying a list of X number of events occuring AFTER a date (eg today) – I don’t understand why there isn’t a widget/shortcode for displaying a list of X number events occuring before a date (today)
There’s clearly a demand for it – ourselves included. Events that happened last month are just as important as events happening next month – visitors need to go and retreive documents or information relating to the meeting that they attended.
Any many people have asked for it in the past….

Cheers!
ps. …/events/list/?tribe_event_display=past doesn’t really fulfil the needs, we’re talking about a shortcode/widget display rather than navigating to an entire page of past events.
March 21, 2017 at 11:24 am #1257486BarryMemberHi Greg!
First of all, my apologies for the longer-than-usual delay in responding.
You pose a great question and it does seem we’ve failed to communicate effectively on this issue. Let me try to add some clarity:
- We currently do not provide a widget or shortcode that will let you dynamically list the past 5, 10 or however many events
- We do however provide solutions such as the [tribe_events] shortcode which accepts a date attribute – letting you force it to display events from the past
If I understand you correctly, the latter doesn’t quite fit your needs. In such a case, the only current way to resolve this would be some custom dev work (possibly building on or ‘wrapping’ one of the existing shortcodes or widgets).
There’s clearly a demand for it – ourselves included.
Absolutely — and we’d encourage you and anyone else who hasn’t already done so to up-vote the following feature request, or indeed any other requests you feel are relevant:
tribe.uservoice.com: Past Events Widget
Demand, though important, is not the only factor we take into account when prioritizing new features. That doesn’t mean we’re ignoring you, though, it’s just a result of us having limited resources and needing to make hard decisions about where and what to spend them on.
I hope that covers the current position and if you have any further questions about this please don’t hesitate to let me know 🙂
March 25, 2017 at 6:49 pm #1260138AnneParticipantHello,
Also we could use something like that urgently! We operate, among others. A gallery and we need a good look at past exhibitions as a reference and accountability for artists, sponsors and sponsors, as well as documentation about our association members … is there already news for it?
There are definitely a lot more people who can use it. Please vote here: tribe.uservoice.com: Past Events Widget
Because this seems to be the prerequisite for it to come forward ….
Thanks.April 4, 2017 at 4:46 pm #1264500BarryMemberThanks, Anne. While gathering votes on the matching feature request isn’t quite a prerequisite it can certainly help us to gauge demand 🙂
If we can assist you with anything else, please do create a new topic and one of the team will be only too happy to assist.
April 6, 2017 at 8:07 am #1265922GregParticipantHi Barry,
Thanks for this. Please could you clarify Hunter’s comments then?
https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/past-events-15/#post-1224892
Because it seems that 3 months ago it was already considered and on the way…:
We have a feature report aimed to include the ability to display past events using the [tribe_events] shortcode, so I’ve added this forum thread to the report which helps increase attention on the matter.
So, 3 months later, how are we looking?
Thanks
April 6, 2017 at 11:40 am #1266114AnneParticipantGood evening,
Also I would like to ask how it stands. How many voices must it be for you to start it? There is an increase from 6 to 23 votes within 2 weeks … here: tribe.uservoice.com: Past Events Widget
I am pleased to hear from the support. It would make the plugin very valuable.
BEst regards,
AnneApril 6, 2017 at 4:28 pm #1266315BarryMemberHi all!
We receive large number of feature requests, this is just one of them. At this point in time, work on introducing support for past events (in the context of our shortcodes) has not begun and is not currently scheduled – simply put, it remains a proposal.
Also I would like to ask how it stands. How many voices must it be for you to start it?
The number of votes can certainly help us to gauge demand, but is not the only thing we need to consider. We’re not ignoring you by any means, we’re simply balancing this with other project needs. As Hunter noted in the other post you referenced, we’ll be sure to communicate the introduction of any new functionality like this via our blog and of course via the changelog.
Thanks!
April 28, 2017 at 9:35 am #1275900Support DroidKeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
