ParticipantHello. We are using Events Calendar Pro for our new websites and we are trying to figure out the best way to upload events. We though about doing it through a Google calendar based on the threads I have read, but, to my understanding we will need Event Aggregator to do that, right? Is a CSV import the best way to update our events? In the screenshot attached you will find how our events will appear on our new websites. Any information you have on what fields from the Google calendar import to Events Calendar Pro or what fields we can import to minimize the manual update on the front-facing website. Also, there are “admissions” tags on the events – will these be updated manually, or in the Google sync, or in the import file? Basically, I will take any insight you have on the best way to update events since I am operating in the dark! Thank you!

KeymasterHi Alexandra,
Thanks so much for reaching out!
You are correct, you will need Event Aggregator in order to import events via Google Calendar.
However, you can import events via CSV with your current setup. The following article can provide you with some examples of how to set up your CSV:
https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/csv-files-options-and-examples/
If you have “Admissions” set up as an Additional Field, then you would be able to import that as well.
Let me know if you have any other questions on this topic!
Thanks,
Jaime

ParticipantHi Jaime. Thank you for your response. I downloaded the example spreadsheet for events and don’t see where we would put the “Tag” for admissions? Is this another column we would add to the spreadsheet? Also, I notice in some of the columns the options are “true”, “false”, “1” or the cell is is blank all together. What do these different options mean for the column heading and how is it translated to the actual event setup?

KeymasterHi Alexandra,
You can add tags to your events when importing using the following snippet:
https://gist.github.com/andrasguseo/2cbc23c8cbb3100f18843994759c0904
If you’d like to include the information in all of the columns, you can leave them in and mark them as true (meaning “yes”) or false (meaning “no”). For example, on the Show Google Map Link column, if you select “true”, the link will show.
Let me know if you have any other questions on this topic!
Thanks,
Jaime

ParticipantHello. Where am I supposed to import the snippet to get the “Admissions” tag? I attached the copy of the CSV file if you would like to show me on this file how to get the tag in. Also – I am trying to upload the file to Word Press and receive an error, which I have attached in another response since it doesn’t seem like I can add multiple attachments to this response. Is this something you can help with, or, something Word Press should help troubleshoot?

ParticipantAttachment of error when I try to upload my CSV file to the events section on Word Press.

KeymasterHi Alexandra,
You can add that snippet to your theme’s functions.php file.
Also, I just tried importing that CSV and it worked for me, so there may be something going on with your setup.
As a first troubleshooting step, could you please provide us with your complete system information in a private reply using the instructions found in the following link?

Also, would you mind re-including the error screenshot? It doesn’t seem to be attached.
Let me know if you have any other questions in the meantime!
Thanks,
Jaime

ParticipantHello! I went in and gave you access (I think). If you don’t have access still, let me know. I have a few follow-up questions. I think I am confusing “tags” with “categories”. What is the difference? I think, what we actually want is to assign the “Admissions” category to certain events, which would allow them to appear in the calendar filter?
We would like to explore all of the options for inputting calendar events, which are syncing a Google calendar, entering one-by-one manually and with an import file. Am I missing anything? In order to test with a Google calendar, is there a trial I can try of Event Aggregator?

KeymasterHi Alexandra,
Unfortunately we cannot log in to your site per our Support Policy, but I will do my best to assist you here.
In any case, you can add a category to your CSV file for each of the events you are importing, as in this example CSV:
Also, this post from WordPress might be able to give you some more information on the difference between categories and tags:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories-vs-tags/
Although we do not have a trial for Event Aggregator, we do have a great 30-day full refund policy, so if things really don’t work out the way you’d hoped, you can get a full refund.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks,
Jaime

ParticipantThank you – that makes sense. I am thinking we are using “categories” to make the red box for “admissions” appear instead of tags. That being said, is there something to put in the import file to categorize events, or will this be done manually?
June 5, 2018 at 4:35 am #1546219Jaime Marchwinski
KeymasterHi Alexandra,
You can add a column for categories, as in the example CSV that I linked to.
Alternatively, you can choose a default category for all of your events to be imported into. This option would only make sense if all of the events you are importing will go into the same category. You can do this under Events Settings < Imports.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
Thanks,
Jaime

ParticipantHello. I purchased the $89 Event Aggregator package. How do I connect this to Word Press? When I try to import events in Word Press the Google Calendar option is still grey-ed out and it is asking me to purchase Event Aggregator.

KeymasterHi Alexandra,
That’s great! You can input the license key under Events Settings < Licenses.
See our New User Primer for more information on how to get started:
