The Events Calendar 5.1.0

Howdy friends! The Events Calendar 5.1.0 features updates that help when you have no current events. These features include a “fast forward” link to see events in the future and a “Recent Past Events” view to see your most recent events instead of seeing an empty calendar.

This is a minor release that should be smooth sailing when updating. That said, it’s always a good idea to backup your site and test changes in a development environment before installing this on your live site, as you would with any other WordPress update.

Here are the detailed changes included in this release:

  • Feature – We have added a “fast forward” link to both the Month and Day views when there are no events to show, which allows users to see future events more easily.
  • Feature – We added tribe_events_views_v2_use_ff_link and tribe_events_views_v2_{$this->slug}_use_ff_link filters to allow for control of the “fast forward” link.
  • Feature – We created “Recent Past Events” views that can be utilized when there are no upcoming events to display in the calendar.
  • Tweak – We have improved meta data handling with the Block editor.
  • Tweak – Select2 3.5.4 is now deprecated in favor of SelectWoo.
  • Tweak – We now load plugin text domain on the new tribe_load_text_domains action hook, which fires on init instead of on the plugins_loaded hook. This allows for custom translations to be loaded correctly.
  • Tweak – We added a constant TRIBE_CACHE_VIEWS to turn off HTML caching in calendar views.
  • Fix – Using theme-related templates as the Events Template no longer triggers a WordPress database error.
  • Fix – Selecting other page templates from Settings → Display now loads the correct template for displaying events.
  • Fix – We’re preventing redirects from the updated calendar views to be too broad because they had been catching requests from other plugins. This was reported by the GravityView team as a bug with Gravity Forms plugin imports.
  • Fix – This fix prevents PHP errors from happening during bulk activation or deactivation of the plugin.
  • Fix – We resolved an issue with iCal links on month view for months other than the current one, so that the correct one is exported.
  • Fix – We have corrected a few text domain typos.
  • Fix – We now ensure that search keywords carry over when changing views and in the top-bar navigation.
  • Fix – This fix prevents the Block editor from throwing a browser alert when leaving the page without any changes applied to the edited post.
  • Fix – Several strings have been adjusted for consistency and better translatability.
  • Hook – We added the tribe_events_blocks_editor_is_on filter, which will remove the “save” prompt if trying to leave the Block Editor screen.
  • Tweak – We added some filters for better control of link targets, standardizing the way we create those links. This allows for the capability to open a link in a new tab, if desired, with the help of an extension.

  • Language4 new strings added, 286 updated, 1 fuzzied, and 2 obsoleted
