    Hi George,

Thanks for replying back. I used to work chat for a software company and I know it is not fun when new releases come out. Thanks for letting me know so I could understand the delay.

I keep running into road block after road block. These are my most current ones:

    1. To import the events from Excel that include tags and cost: I would like to be able to import in Tags but see I can’t do that unless I try a WP import per above. I also wanted to import in “Form of event”. (Conference, Online, etc) I saw I could import in Cost with the built in import tool, and I read that I could change the taxonomy which I did. The issue is I can’t find a way to add the fields I need. I.E. Conference, Online, etc.. Is this possible?

    2. It does not appear that the filter bar will allow me to pick two items to narrow the search I.E. Conference AND Angels and only get that kind of item. Instead it just pulls in EVERY conference plus angels so not ones dealing ONLY with Angels.

    3. I have Uber Menu and can create flyout menus there for the sub-parents that are important but I still need a way for folks to pick ‘Form of Event” so back up to issue one.

    4. I don’t thing changing to the calendar view as you mentioned will solve for the filter bar issues that I’m having but I appreciate you trying to find a solution. 🙂

If there is not a way to modify the cost section of the filter bar so that I can import via CSV, and/or pick several items from the Events section to narrow down the events, then the filter bar is truly not going to do anything that I need and would be a waste of money.

If I don’t use the filter bar, I can still use categories and Uber Menu for folks to narrow down their searches? If you check out my site http://www.footstepsofwisdome.com you will see that I have added Form of Event as a test for this. I just want to make sure if I turn off the filter bar if I can still do the above.

At this point is it too late to get the filter bar refunded? I really did ask a lot of questions and explained my needs in pre-sales so I thought this was going to work. Many hours later and a large hole in the wall from where I was banging my head, I still don’t have a workable solution.

I’m not a programer or very experienced, so using CSS is not going to work, unless it is something very basic. I need to find solutions that are supported by the plugins I choose.

    Kind regards,

    Cindy

    Hi George,

It has been over 48 hours since my last posting to this thread. I don’t mean to be impatient, but I started this thread on Thursday and I’m still no closer to figuring out a plan of action. I’m hoping to have one by this weekend so I can move forward. 🙂

    Thanks

    Hi again George,

I’m open to any suggestions about how to do this that you may have. Eventually this calendar will have 600-900 events is my guess. I have looked at all of the showcase calendars and none of them seem to have anywhere near that amount of events. Are there other sites that you can think of that may help give me ideas on how to organize this?

    Thanks so much! 🙂

    Hi George,

Thank-you for your reply. Is this something that is on the radar as an update? I would have to think that having the sub-categories only dropping down when the parent is picked would be a basic function for the filter bar.

Is there anyway to upload tags from Excel? I was looking in the imports section, but do not see that option. I could try using tags instead of sub-categories but would need to be able to import them since I am adding events via Excel.

    Kind regards,

    Cindy

    Hi,

I found this thread: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/display-only-children-categories-of-a-specific-parent-in-a-custom-filter/ and I think it may answer my question, but I need to know what php file to put that code in and where does it belong.

    Thanks,

    Cindy

    Hi Brian!

Thanks for the steps and info. I had looked at that document but was not finding what I needed. I think it is because I’m new to WP and plugins so I’m learning terms and how everything fits together while setting this up. So I end up reading stuff that I don’t always understand meaning or how it relates. But with your wonderful help I’m getting there! 🙂

Will give this a try latter today and let you know.

There is one other thing… When I imported the CSV file aprox 30 events did not come over, but it only alerted me to one event that had a missing date, so I don’t know which other events had importing issues. Any suggestions?

    Hi Brian,

Just saw your email right after I sent my last one.

I had already read the New User Primer on Filter Bar and it does not answer questions 2 and 3 from my first posting or explain how to import in and setup all of the categories that I need. I go into more details on those needs in my other notes to you today.

    Sorry for the multiple postings!

    Thanks,
    Cindy

ok…. so I found answer to question 4 and have installed that plugin. I went into the filter bar setup section, but I don’t see how to have do child categories. I.E. Category 1: Mind/Body/Spirit ; child 1 – Release techniques; Child 2 – would be type of release technique.

Also still not clear how this will match up when I import the 250 plus events. I have a column that list the Categories. Some events have multiple categories. I.E. Type of calendar like Mind/body/spirit and then it is broken down further by:
    Parent : Event type : child 1 – Webinar; child 2 – Free

Next I have categories that tell what will be covered at event. I.E. Release techniques, meditation, etc… If it is a conference with multiple speakers there can be multiple topics covered. This means that on some of my events in CSV there can be 10 or so categories in that column.

    Thanks for the help,

    Cindy

Ok…So I found some CSV info once I finished installing the plugin so I hope I’m good to go with question 1.

    I now have another question:

    4. I purchased the filter add on via the website but do not see it in WP. I see where I can purchase it via calendar Pro in my setup, but I have already purchased it, so how do I manage this?

    Thanks,

    Cindy
