    Hi Josh,

After many attempts I have figured out how to get my events upload via the import tool, due to issue with the special characters. Thanks for seeing those. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I now use Google Sheets to enter the events
    2. Save as a CSV file but DO NOT open it in Excel. Excel seems to be where the special characters show up. And if the file is even opened in Excel it toasts it.
    3. Import in

I have not been able to figure out why Excel is ending up with special characters but it does. The other thing to note for others is that when they are importing, the import tool will indicate everything was imported, but if there is a character, it does not always get imported. I ran into this several times when converting from my other event plugin and did not understand the issue. When I contacted support to ask why the import tool was not telling which lines really did not get imported and to ask for help, they just suggested I figure it out manually. This is an error on the import tool and it would be great if that could be fixed, but the rest deals with something goofy that Excel is doing.

Thanks for your time and help. Hope you have a good week!

    Hi Josh,

We have established that I don’t know how to get you the file so I sent it to [email protected] and asked them to forward it to you. I updated the file to only include the one event that had the quotes and apostrophe’s. The other two events showed examples of issues with the time not converting correctly and I figured that issue out.

    Thanks,

    Cindy

    Hi Josh,

I turned off all the plugins and used Twenty Thirteen theme. All of the quotation marks and apostrophes still came over as question marks.

I did figure out the issue with the time not importing correctly. Events Calendar seems to need the date to be in this format: 10/10/2015 or it pulls in weird dates and times if not all day event. I just stumbled on that solution.

What needs to happen now to fix the quote and apostrophes marks?

    Thanks,

    Cindy

    Hey again –

Perhaps this will help you recreate what I did.

I copy paste the event info that I want from a website to Notepad to get rid of bold text and different fonts, sizes, etc… Then I copy the data into the CSV template that I pulled from MT Help site.

Here is a link to the website that I pulled info from that has punctuation errors: https://gangaji.org/events/view/?id=868

    Thanks!

    George,

I don’t think you are taking the time to read my posts or you could have told me this last week. I know that I don’t always have the right terms because I’m new to this and that could have caused some of the confusion, but I also know that you are not really reading my posts. I know this because I have done chat support before for a software program. And I have trained agents on this process. I would tell them over and over that they need to take an extra 2 minutes to read the posts and make sure they truly get what is being asked or clarify the situation. And yes… they would say “but I have tons of chats that I have to get done.” And I would say you would have less if you really read the posts and figured out the issues. And it would create a really good customer experience. The customer is already frustrated and we as agents do not need to make it worse. I would also tell them the customers often times would have a hard time putting in to words what they mean because they are new and it is our job to help them.

I don’t think your suggestion will work because of the issue that I have asked about in at least two of my posts with you and is the whole reason I started trying to find a work around. Below is the issue again:

I canโ€™t pick two items from my โ€˜Eventโ€ filter on the filter bar and narrow it down. I. E. Workshops and Angels. Picking both of those should only produce one event, but it does not. It gives me ALL of the events I have marked Workshops and the ONE marked Angels. There is truly only one event that should come up if the Filter bar the way I need it to work.

Please do not make me wait 2 days for another reply because tomorrow will mark two weeks that I have been trying to get answers on how to make the filter bar work for me. If you are still too busy with the new release, please get me over to someone else.

Karl – I saw that you noted your site has tons of events, which mine will also have. Would you mind sending me a link to it so I can see how you have setup your calendar? I’m just starting to set this up and my brain hurts. ๐Ÿ™‚ Would love to see how The Events Calendar is being used by folks with tons of events.

    My email is [email protected]

    Thanks!

    Hi Karl and Geoff,

Thanks for the info Karl! I will give that a try in the next day or so. I really appreciate any help because I’m a struggling newbie. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll post back how it goes.

    HI George,

We still have missed the issue : I don’t know how to get my options to show up under the Form of Events section on the filter bar.

I have gone into Add New Event and the only section I see is the Cost of Event and a box to put in the price. In that field I have typed Workshop, etc… but when I look back at the filter bar nothing shows up. Is there something else I can do? Otherwise there is no point in modifying the name and use of the Cost of Event field.

The next issue is I still can’t pick two items from my ‘Event” filter on the filter bar and narrow it down. I. E. Workshops and Angels. Picking both of those should only produce one event, but it does not. It gives me ALL of the events I have marked Workshops and the ONE marked Angels.

I did see a note that support would be closed over the 4th, so I understood that.

    Thanks,

    Cindy

    Hi George,

Here is more on my above topic 1. Thinking I will break them out to make it easier for both of us. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Importing Tags and Cost. This is what I think I know and then I will recap the issue.

    a. I know I can import Cost field per your info located at: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/csv-files-options-and-examples/
There it reads: There are twelve event fields that can be filled via CSV file: event name, description, start date, start time, end date, end time, venue name, organizer name, event cost, event phone, event category (1 or more, separated by commas) and event website.

    b. I know I can add Cost filter to my site as a searchable filter because it is under Filter setup and I know have it added.

    c. I know I can change the name of Cost to whatever I want based on info from this thread: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/change-taxonomy-names/
It says: We have a knowledgebase item showing how to change the word โ€œeventsโ€ to a different string. You can use this same approach for all of the text that you would like changed on your site.
Based on this info I changed the name of Cost to Form of Event on my site.

The issue is now that I have done the above, how do I add options to the filter. I.E. Conferences, workshops, etc… so that it shows up under Form of Event?

I have looked every where for info on how to do that and either it is not there, or I just don’t know the key words to search for. (Or I’m blind to it because I have been staring at this for far too long! ๐Ÿ™‚ )

    Thanks,

    Cindy

    Hi George,

Thanks for the reply. I’m trying really hard to figure this out so I can have a filter. That is what I really want…not a refund. I have hours and hours invested in getting the data ready to import from other plugin and the thought of it not working really bums me out.

I will spend more time on this over the holiday and see what happens. I’ll reply back with my results.

    Thanks again,

    Cindy

Ok.. So that is the issue. I’m not entering in the complete addresses because each one will be different and that is too time consuming. In this case I can’t use the location field and will just remove it.

Thanks so much and happy July 4th,

    Cindy
