Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipant
No problem on timing, and thanks for helping to dig deeper on this!
I have a hard time believing that we are exceeding traffic limits, however. We had a total of 6,820 unique page views site-wide during the month of September, which is one of our peak months. Of those visits, only 1,383 were to our events page where the map lives.
For good measure, I even ran data for all of 2018 (Jan 1 thru Oct 3) and we had 34,775 total page views, with 5,809 of them being our event/map page. From the info I’m able to find, the first/free tier for Google maps allows for 0-100,000 page views monthly (or annually? even if annually, we are still well below the number)…or am I mis-informed? Any advice on how I should proceed?
GA data reference for September (above) is attached.
Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantWOW! Thank you so much…we were never even able to find or get to these pages and options, so this was a huge help!
Our Java script API was not enabled, but we’ve now confirmed that it is (green check is there). With that, the map is still not functioning properly, and we’re getting “This page can’t load Google Maps correctly” (see attached screenshot). For good measure, I’ve also double checked to be sure we’ve got the correct API Key plugged into our Event Calendar settings.
The map looks like it wants to load, with active pins appearing, but then the error message pops up. There must be something easy/minor we’ve missed in this process?
In case it’s helpful to see, here’s our event page (map view): https://www.greatmaineoutdoorweekend.org/events/map/
Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantActually, maybe we don’t have Java working properly. Now I’m not actually sure. Impossible for me to get to any place where this is controlled. We are perpetually stopped at this screen no matter what we do.
Our site is WELL below the traffic requirements to use maps for free. We do not want to set up a billing account, and can’t seem to get any add’l info for our API without having to sign up for one.
Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantYep, I’ve spent over an hour trying to follow their instructions, to no avail. As I said, it’s nearly impossible to get around their requirement to set up a paid account. We did somehow work around it, got an API key, and confirmed that java was enabled. Still…zero map functionality.
Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantThanks so much! Unfortunately, that article is out of date. The process for obtaining an API key is now completely different and seems to force us into setting up a billing account, which we prefer not to do (we are way below their limits for the paid subscription levels now being offered).
This is where we’re stuck, however…I did manage to bypass the billing setup, got an API key, and plugged it into the calendar settings where indicated. Even with the new API key, the map is not working.
We could really use some advice on this one…thanks in advance!
Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantHi Casey. I forgot to mention that I was able to style away the display problem but would certainly love to track down the cause of those stray tags if you’ve ever see it before. Thanks.

The plugins are back (must have been an issue with the original unzip or upload I tried). Oh, & I found the “Pro” file, which was alluding me because it wasn’t titled with “the” like the others, so it wasn’t next to it in my plugin file 🙂
I’ve now got: Events Calendar 2.0.8, Pro 2.0.8, and Community 1.0.2. Look correct to you version-wise?
Now I’m on to restoring the database, which is my own issue. I appreciate your support & sorry to be a pain in your side today.
Is it Friday yet?
September 19, 2012 at 7:41 am in reply to: Update to 2.0.9 Completely Wiped Out Custom Fields #25399Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantworking on a fresh unzip & upload. Will email you if this does not work.
Thx again.September 19, 2012 at 7:40 am in reply to: Update to 2.0.9 Completely Wiped Out Custom Fields #25398Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantAnd yes, I am 100% positive I was running the most current plugin versions prior to the update. I maintain all client sites with weekly backup/update procedures.
September 19, 2012 at 7:39 am in reply to: Update to 2.0.9 Completely Wiped Out Custom Fields #25397Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantGood to know on the latter part…he was following your instructions on customizations, so hopefully this portion won’t be an issue.
September 19, 2012 at 7:38 am in reply to: Update to 2.0.9 Completely Wiped Out Custom Fields #25396Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantI am dealing with two completely unzipped files (one titled “the-events-calendar”, the other titled “the-events-calendar-community-events” from the same recent full site backup (so they would theoretically be in synch). Both appear to have all contents intact, and I uploaded both unzipped files to the plugins folder of the site. When I then navigated to the plugins page of the site to activate them, they did not appear on the list of installed plugins.
I will try going thru this process again, from a fresh unzip, if you agree that this is supposed to be the proper procedure. Perhaps there was an issue unzipping &/or uploading the files.
September 19, 2012 at 7:28 am in reply to: Update to 2.0.9 Completely Wiped Out Custom Fields #25393Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantAlso, as I recall, there were three plugins on the page before I deleted them (maybe this was the mis step?): Events Calendar, Events Calendar PRO, and Community Events. Only two files exist in the site backup though, so maybe I should be uploading the free Events calendar first? Either way, the most current version of any of these I have on file are back to pro 2.0.2, so if you have a link to download 2.0.8, I can perhaps just use those…
If I go the route of uploading your versions, then I need to figure out where all of the cusomizations were that we paid my CSS/PHP expert to deal with for us. I’d be asking him to manage all of this for me, but because this is a pro bono client, I don’t have budget for this unexpected issue.
September 19, 2012 at 7:24 am in reply to: Update to 2.0.9 Completely Wiped Out Custom Fields #25391Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantI’m sorry, not sure what you’re asking. I’m dealing with two files from a previous site backup (before the update): Community Events and Events Calendar Pro. I’m uploading them via FTP to the site’s plugin folder, then when I go to the plugin page, neither plugin is visible.
September 19, 2012 at 6:59 am in reply to: Update to 2.0.9 Completely Wiped Out Custom Fields #25389Mary Kaitlyn BernardParticipantTried manually uploading the Events Calendar Pro & Community Events files from my recent site backup, but once they were uploaded to plugins folder via FTP, they still did not appear on the plugins page for activation…perhaps I’m doing something wrong, but I was thinking this would be the correct roll back procedure?
