Hi Jonah, Sorry to bring back this old thread but I’m finally getting around to attempting to get this working. In this project I’m using the Genesis Framework, which doesn’t have a category.php file.

I think what I’m needing to do here is create a category template that uses a custom loop.

I’m thinking the following tutorial is somewhat relevant to what I’m trying to do.
    http://highfxmedia.com/blog/studiopress-genesis-custom-page-templates-part-2/

Unfortunately, I just don’t know how to write the loop that will combine the Category ID that I want with the Event Category ID that I want, as the PHP programming is outside my current skill level.

With this additional information of my infrastructure is there any additional guidance you can provide.

Yes correct Rob. This is a plugin that gives WP more of CMS like functionality allowing you much greater flexibility of managing users/roles etc. I think the developer is pretty helpful for trying to resolve incompatibilities with other plugins as I see frequent updates to Role Scoper specific to compatibility issues.

As always, thanks for being open to looking for solutions!

For the time being I just disabled Role Scoper Realm on Events Calendar Taxonomies and Post Types. I can live with that for now. But something you might want to look into and work with the Role Scoper Dev on.

Thanks Jonah, blog category templates were not something I was aware of, but that looks like the right track for sure, and glad to learn about them.

From your snippet above, am I safe to assume that I need to change the “terms” value to 8, the Event Category ID that I want to merge with custom category template I need to create for Blog Category ID 8.

Thanks for your assistance, you guys are doing a great job supporting your plugin, money well spent!

Thanks Jonah, I won’t have a chance to delve into this and test it for a while, getting ready to go on vacation. But I appreciate you taking the time to offer some guidance.

I’m not a PHP programmer, but can typically hack, cut, copy, and paste my way around. 🙂 Wouldn’t there need to be something that specifies which Blog Category that I want the specific Event Category to be merged with?

I’m not sure if this will help provide more specific instructions, but I’m looking to Merge Event Category ID 8 with Blog Category ID 8. I’m not sure if its just coincidence that they have the ID #, or if that maybe has something to do with the fact that both Categories have the same name?

Also is there possibly a way to do this in the functions.php perhaps so I don’t have to modify any theme files.

Hi Jonah, thanks for your prompt reply. No I don’t have a custom single.venue.php override in place. I haven’t started customizing anything yet.

OK, I guess I got confused by how this feature was working before the 2.0.3 upgrade. Its working as I would like now. Sorry for the confusion.

I’m not interested in replacing empty fields with default values. I want to set default values for the entire drop down. So that when you go to enter a new entry the drop down is already on the options I have selected as defaults in the settings.

Here’s screen shot of the settings.

Here’s a screen shot of the Event Entry fields

As you see, despite having defaults set. I am still forced to select the values I want from the drop down list on every entry.

    Thanks for your assistance.

Sorry yes typo. 2.0.3 on both releases.

Tried changing Default Venue and Organizer to “Use New” then saved. Then changed it to the defaults that I wanted and saved again. Doesn’t seem to have any effect. No matter what option I select on these fields, I get “Use New” in the event entry fields for Organizer and Venue.

Being able to set Default Start and End times would be great. The current site that I’m working on has 95% of their events at the same start and end times and being able to set that as a default would save a couple of seconds on each entry.

Also along the same lines of saving time for submitting entries, after setting the start date, the end date should automatically change to the same date rather than staying on current date. Even its a multiday event its more useful to have the end date match the start date than the current date.

Thanks Rob, I updated to 2.0.4 and was able to disable the Automatically replace fields dialog, but the Default Organizer and Venue, are not selected in the drop down lists when creating a new event? “Add New” shows as the default for both options.

It would be great to be able to list events by Organizer, like you can by Venue. It would also be great if you can somehow link Organizers to a WordPress profiles.

You should be able to do this with Template Overrides. Look in the FAQ’s for details.
