Hi Cliff,
Thanks for the reply. Custom CSS added to the style.css file in my child theme is over-ridden by the styles in filter-view-min.css. Same for custom styles in a tribe-events.css in the /child-theme/tribe-events/ folder.
I figured it out looking at this forum thread: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/add-custom-filter-view-min-css/
Custom filter bar CSS goes into:
/child-theme/tribe-events/filterbar/filter-view.cssCustom filter bar template file goes into:
/child-theme/tribe-events/filter-bar/filter-view-horzontal.phpThe confusion arises from needing two filter bar folders in the tribe-events folder.
globemediaParticipantHi Geoff,
I should mention that the behaviour I described occurs after I embedded a ‘visible’ event, and later checked off the “Hide from Event Listings” option. Attempting to embed a hidden event from the get-go results in just the URL text. Are you able to replicate this behaviour on your environment?
Anyways, I’m hoping that there might be a line or two of code that I can modify to allow for hidden events to be embeddable. Are you able to offer some guidance on that front?
Thanks,
BorisglobemediaParticipantHi Geoff,
Thanks for the reply. Just to be clear, I’m not referring to setting an event as Private. I’m referring to the Event Options box “Hide from Event Listings”. This option is not meant to duplicate the functionality of making the event’s visibility Private, but just remove it form the default views, yet allow an admin to promote it manually, which embeds are perfect for.
In addition, embedding a “hidden” event, still leaves the event title and link of an attempted embed visible, and the event page is still accessible (it’s not embedding fully, I guess – see attached). Is there any guidance / code that will allow hidden events to embed fully, rather than just partially?
Thanks,
globemediaParticipantHi Barry,
I appreciate the extra information on when a possible fix is coming. Knowing to plan for a month or two rather than a week or two helps with what steps I take to minimize the issue. I really hope it will be resolved with the 3.6 release!globemediaParticipantThis reply is private.

globemediaParticipantI just logged in to the demo site (link above), and changed Event Category to use a dropdown instead of checkboxes. No change – filters still disappear on refresh. This is major issue for my site – I need users to be able to generate and share filtered event lists.
Can you provide some info on a possible bug fix release, hot fix, quick and dirty hack, etc?globemediaParticipantThis reply is private.
globemediaParticipantHi Barry,
I just tried the troubleshooting steps (only 3 active plugins, 2012 theme) with no luck. The same behaviour persists. Any other clues as to what is preventing <div id=”tribe_events_filter_item_organizers”> and
<div id=”tribe_events_filter_item_venues”> from appearing on the page when either “Event Category” or “Tags” are filtered? I also added “Cost”, “Day” and “Time” to the filter bar, as well as re-ordering the filters, but that does not affect things.globemediaParticipantHi Barry,
Hmm, I can not see your previous reply (I’m logged in) due to it being “marked as private”? As an addendum to my issue, I’ve noticed that filtering by Organizer or Venue and refreshing the page causes no problems. Only when filtering by event category or tag do the “organizer” and “venues” filter drop downs disappear from the page (along with their selections). Thanks.globemediaParticipantThis reply is private.

Please consider implementing this feature in a future version of Filter Bar as I can imagine it being useful for many people.

Thanks for your reply. Those approaches do make sense, but are not really what I was hoping for. I’m using filters for Event Category, Organizer, Tags and Venues (some with over 20 choices). To have them all visible on screen, especially for mobile and tablet users is not ideal. I was hoping that I would be able to keep the existing layout with the retracting dropdowns, but have access to the “term names” that are in effect for each filterable taxonomy. They would update after each selection or deselection. Thanks.globemediaParticipantThanks, Julie. Please let us know if you’re aware of any known short-term solutions that might do the trick for the time being. Right now my plan is to hide the filter bar for mobile visitors.
