ParticipantThat looks perfect Brian, thanks so much – I shall give that a try.
ps Geoff’s got a mean bit of beard going on there!October 2, 2015 at 2:08 pm in reply to: iCal import from Google Calendar not showing All Day Events #1011093Chris Adams
ParticipantHi Brian,
Alas now when I try to import the data from the ICS file (using the address I sent in my private reply) I get nothing coming back from the search to import at all???
Yesterday in an attempt to try and re-import the data from the ICS file I first deleted all event data from the TEC plugin – since then I get nothing when I try to import from the ical url. Even when I download the ics file to my PC and then import it that way I get nothing.
Humph.
Please help – I don’t *think* I’m doing anything particularly wrong?

ParticipantHey George, Yes – the thread for the duplicated all day events is here – https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/duplicate-events-on-all-day-events/ – Brian has looked at it and has advised that it is a bug that is going to be looked at, fyi.
Closing this issue now though. Thanks again for your help.

ParticipantOK – Thanks Brian, will wait for that update…

ParticipantHi,
An update. I checked the content (Description) for all of the events that said were being imported but weren’t showing up and as you suggested Ian there were some special characters such as £ signs – dashes (–) and so on and converted them all either to normal chars or html as suggested. That has worked 🙂
Thanks so much both for your help.
About to open another thread however as I have a new issue! Some events are now being duplicated when I re-import the csv file, some are not…
The work continues!

ParticipantThanks Brian 🙂

ParticipantThanks for that Brian, going to run a few more tests to see how it goes – if I run into further issues then I’ll request further assistance.
Before I go though(!) in your opinion, if the plugin was going to be updated ONLY by csv import, then does it make sense to keep a full csv of ALL events and upload afresh each time, keeping a backup csv of the last working import, in case there is any issue with the new data?
Thanks,
ChrisChris Adams
ParticipantHi Brian,
I’ve just re-imported the file, having imported the same file previously and I get the following report:-Events Import (CSV)
Import ResultImport complete!
Inserted: 56
Updated: 25
Skipped: 0The import statistics above have the following meaning:
Inserted: A new item was inserted successfully.
Updated: An item was found with the same name and/or start date. The existing item was updated with the new value from the file.
Skipped: A row was found in the CSV file that could not be imported. Please see below for the invalid rows.Does this not mean that any entries found with the same start date and name are in fact updated by the new content?
(BTW I am having issues with the original import, as it said it had imported a total of 81 events but ACTUALLY had only imported 50… another thread is open re this).Chris Adams
ParticipantThanks Brian,
I’ve done that yes, and re-imported the data fine which is great (actually I have another issue but that’s on a separate thread!).
So my query here evolves somewhat… As I understand the csv file import function to work, where there are already events in the system, if a csv file is imported and it includes both current events on the system and new ones it will leave the current events as they are, unless the new data is different, and it will add the new events to the system. Assuming all data is good to go, then no problem. But if the data uploaded has any conflicts or problems then the whole lot will need to be rolled back (and yes I understand that would need to be performed by a previously taken backup of the database).
So – am I to assume that the best way to perform updates using csv import to prevent the possibility of having to rollback the whole of the database, would be for the set of data to include ALL events each time as opposed to updates to the current set of events? That way if there was a problem then it would be possible to (more) simply delete the lot and then re-import the last saved csv file that DID work, then bug check the new data before retrying…
What are your thoughts?
Thanks,

ParticipantHi George & Ian, sorry I’ve been silent – I’ve had my broadband taken down the last few days.
I will respond tomorrow with feedback on both the (sets of) queries so we can continue looking at this for both you Ian and my issues.
Tomorrow then!
