ParticipantMatt, as Rob said on June 1, the fix wasn’t discovered in time for the June update and would be included in the July release. Please be patient.

ParticipantI have a huge amount of respect and gratitude for you, Jonah, and the rest of the Modern Tribe team, but I have to disagree on this issue. Please take a look at the following 2 screen shots. This is what the community/add form looks like in twenty-ten theme, the most basic of all included themes in WP. Before taking those screen shots, I also disabled every plugin except The Events Calendar, The Events Calendar Pro and Community Events.
The Visual editor: http://featherrivercountry.com/images/support/ce-add-visual-editor2ff.jpg
The HTML editor: http://featherrivercountry.com/images/support/ce-add-html-editor2ff.jpgGranted, the HTML editor doesn’t look as bad as the Visual editor, but there is some serious problem here when that “Path: p” thing shows up and that part, as well as the button bar goes all the way into the sidebar and the textarea doesn’t.
I’m sure you can see from my short participation here, that I am not afraid to delve into modifying the CSS, HTML or PHP. I do as much testing and research as anyone should, maybe more. I ask for guidance, not for anyone to do it all for me. But this is beyond the scope of my expertise.
I don’t mind customizing, but I think this falls into the repairs category. When the interface is wonky like that using the WP default theme and no other plugins but Modern Tribe’s, then I hope that you can see this might be a bug. It looks exactly the same in every browser I have, which are all the latest versions and on an up-to-date Windows7 machine.
Thanks,
Jim

ParticipantOkay, I have a new contact form now (Fast Secure Contact). It works fine and has no apparent conflict with CE. There are still considerable styling issues that I don’t think should be as ugly as they are.

ParticipantFurther tests reveal there is a conflict with my contact form plugin, cforms II. I have deactivated it and removed all the files for it. The Visual/HTML tabs now work, but the community/add form is still Ugly.

ParticipantI’ve been doing some testing and discovered this problem I am having also occurs using the Twenty-Ten and Twenty-Eleven themes. The HTML tab is not selectable and no editor buttons show on the default Visual tab. When clicking the Visual tab, the editor itself disappears, except for the Visual/HTML tabs. This is using the 2 most popular browsers in the world, IE and Firefox.
Thanks,
Jim

ParticipantJonah,
Although that CSS you suggested did do something, it didn’t fix the problem. There is far too much CSS to override to make those buttons behave. And it doesn’t even take into account that, in IE and Firefox, the Visual and HTML selectors aren’t working at all – I doubt that’s a CSS issue.
I think the editor selectors need to be fixed before the CSS problems. As far as the editor buttons, it might even mean creating all new CSS because it might be easier than trying to override everything another CSS file is doing that was never intended to be edited by the user. I don’t know why the developers decided to import that CSS. I’m not sure I would be the only one using Weaver II theme, or if this also has some anomalies with Twenty-Eleven, which it what Weaver II is based on.
Is there another part of my site that editor-buttons.css would be used, so I can see in what context the styling works? I also want to see if the styling looks the same in the 4 browsers I use. It certainly doesn’t with community/add/.
Thanks,
Jim

ParticipantHi Jonah,
Thanks for that. The CSS you suggested didn’t work, but this did:
.type-wp_router_page + #comments {
display: none;
}Sorry I don’t know how to put code in its own yellow block like you did. Is that something you can share?
Thanks again. The CSS works fine the way I edited it. For others, it may work differently, depending on your own theme.

ParticipantNever mind that last paragraph above. I just discovered this: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation/events-calendar-themers-guide/
So, change that request from better product directions to better directions to product documentation. 😉

ParticipantI have another vote for page template selection – at least use the same one TEC uses.
The ADD form’s CSS is not all determined by the tribe-events-community.css, so I’d like to see (especially) that CSS that isn’t easy to edit included in that file. Like the Visual/HTML editor buttons.
Options to turn on/off the image/file upload feature.
Option to add a button or link easily to TEC pages so those users with permissions can click to add new events.
Better documentation of the available options and popular/common modifications. This seems to be an issue with many plugins, but shouldn’t be so much with premium plugins. It would reduce the amount of support requests and allow others to provide peer support. Everybody can use instructions and directions. I know it’s against the man code, but I never hesitate to ask for direction BEFORE I get lost. Good documentation is an important feature of any real or virtual product.

ParticipantHi John,
I don’t use the upload feature for events, so I’m not sure I can help much. The error information doesn’t seem to be referencing an image. I see no valid image file extension (.jpg, .gif, .png, et cetera).
Another thing to check would be the folder permissions where your images are uploaded to. They should be set to 0777 (or 777).
Tribe staff prob’ly won’t be back to help until Monday.

ParticipantJeez, I went to a lot of trouble to explain how I temporarily fixed this problem. When I clicked Post Comment, it didn’t post. Now I can’t do that all over again, but do want to share what I did.
Modifying the plugin files is not recommended unless you can save them in *your-child-theme*/events/community/. The file I had to edit to solve my issue can’t be saved like that, so if you try this, save an original copy so you can restore the file if you mess up.
The file is located in communitytagged10/lib/tribe-community-events.class.php. On lines 2071, 2072 and 2086 only, change the 9 to a 99. Save the file and upload it to the right folder on your server. That will show all your categories, without a link to more until you have more than 99 categories.
Do this at your own risk. Modern Tribe should not be held responsible for you following my advice. I don’t advise anyone do this unless they know exactly what they are doing. You may want to wait for future releases that will give us this and many other options. Me, I’m impatient and sometimes foolish.
Best R’gards,

ParticipantSorry for bringing up an old topic, but I have an issue regarding the comments form display.
I don’t want the comment form to display on any of the CE form pages, so I used some CSS I thought would get rid of it. I added this to my tribe-events-community.css file, located in my theme/events/community folder:
#comments { display:none; }
That not only removes the comment form, but also the space it takes up. Unfortunately, it also removes the comment form from all my website’s posts and pages it should appear on.
How can I use CSS to remove the comments form just from CE form pages? If that’s not possible, what conditional might I add to my theme’s comments.php that will prevent the comments form from appearing on CE forms?
I realize a fix is on the to-do list, but I’d like to fix this, even if only temporarily, before presenting this feature to my visitors.
Thanks,
Jim

ParticipantI was having this same trouble. When I read this topic and found that the culprit was related to my permalink structure, I did a little research. It’s important to me to give members of my community the ability to add events from around the county. But it’s also important to develop good SEO (Search Engine Optimization), especially because we are a small rural area (anyone ever heard of the Feather River, or Feather River Country?).
I read several articles about permalink structures and decided having the category (%category%) in the URL did not have the SEO value I thought it did. Although I did have categories that were keyword valuable, they also represent multiple levels to the site structure, which isn’t necessarily good for SEO. Keyword rich entry titles (%postname%) can improve the value of a URL and the permalink can be edited to remove stop words (and, the, a, etc.) and even alter it from the actual article title.
I changed my permalink structure to /%postname%-%post_id%/ for site performance and SEO. You can search around for WordPress permalink strategies, but I found this article most helpful: http://docs.appthemes.com/tutorials/wordpress-permalink-structure/
Changing my permalink structure did require me to edit my .htaccess file to add permanent redirects. My site is only a month old, so I don’t have a lot of content to redirect. That article suggests it may not be that important with a new site, but I don’t want to lose any advantage I may have.
Since removing %category% from my permalink structure, I don’t have the WP_Router/wp-router-placeholder-page/ problem. I do hope that the developers will fix that glitch for those who do not want to change their permalink structure though. I have no reason to believe they won’t. I have a lot of faith in the Modern Tribe team in just the short amount of time I have been using their products.

ParticipantJonah said: “The code could be cleaned up a little for readability but bah, who needs that if it works right?”
Hey, I am all about clean code – as much as possible anyway. Are you talking about comment tags, or some actual code modifications that might be better? I sure don’t want anyone to inherit something that could be trouble later on. And sometimes the code that does something right can also slow the page load down a bit, whereas other code will accomplish the same thing, only it loads faster.
C’mon, hep a guy out – not that you haven’t already gone beyond the call of duty. 😉
