I’m sure there’s a reason behind showing only a partial list of categories in the ADD form, but there is no option to select the order in which they display, or how many to display. Because my experience has shown that users won’t always click the “Show all categories,” many applicable categories will go unchecked, thus limiting the ability of visitors from sorting what they want to view.

Is there a file I can edit and place a copy of in *my-theme*/events/community/? I would prefer to show all available categories. Barring that, what file can I edit to make the link look different? I know I can style it with CSS, but I can’t change the wording that way.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Jim,
I have the same critique of that format. I know that a lot of my customers will never click the see more link. It is silly to have it set up that way. I was told that I just needed to make the click to show all categories link bigger.

Jeez, I went to a lot of trouble to explain how I temporarily fixed this problem. When I clicked Post Comment, it didn’t post. Now I can’t do that all over again, but do want to share what I did.

Modifying the plugin files is not recommended unless you can save them in *your-child-theme*/events/community/. The file I had to edit to solve my issue can’t be saved like that, so if you try this, save an original copy so you can restore the file if you mess up.

The file is located in communitytagged10/lib/tribe-community-events.class.php. On lines 2071, 2072 and 2086 only, change the 9 to a 99. Save the file and upload it to the right folder on your server. That will show all your categories, without a link to more until you have more than 99 categories.

Do this at your own risk. Modern Tribe should not be held responsible for you following my advice. I don’t advise anyone do this unless they know exactly what they are doing. You may want to wait for future releases that will give us this and many other options. Me, I’m impatient and sometimes foolish.

    Best R’gards,

    Jim

    Hi guys,

We don’t currently have a filter for the category display in place (which would allow you more control over the category query) but there is a ticket to implement this feature in a future version. No guarantees of when that may be. For now, Jim’s solution will work but like he mentioned be advised that editing core plugin files is not recommended by us because the next time you update the plugin those changes will be wiped. My suggestion if you are making core changes is to use version control so you can view a history of what you changed or just make a backup and note of what you changed somewhere and be prepared to make the change every time you update.

    Cheers,
    Jonah
