Last night I created 3 new CSVs (small ones with 12, 9, 9 events) and imported them into the main site and the staging site.
The main site: Each CSV created 5 and updated 5 events each time which is strange when there was only 9 events in the CSV and I checked the none of the events were already in the site.
The staging site: Created 9, 9 and 11 and updated 1 event in the 15 May A csv. I redid the import and the same thing happened. I then checked which event was updated and it was “Eid al-Fitr”. In the CSV there are 2 of these events on the same date but in different locations. It seems to be taking this as the same event. We understood that the key data was date, name, venue name – if one of these were different it would take it as a separate event but it does not seem to be working like this any longer.
Still the pictures are not “matching”
So we seem to have a problem with the upload itself in the main site, when events are being seen as a new event and the matching pictures.
Our developer then did the same double checking It was with the twenty seventeen theme and all other plugins disabled. We’ve also now deleted that suspicious plug in – I’m not sure where it’s come from.
I’ll send you the csv files shortly

For now, let’s focus on the staging site since it is the one with the most recent plugin updates. Your live site is not going to be any different until you are able to update the plugins.

If you can get me the latest CSV you are trying to import, I can try it myself and see what happens. This is where we were before when the bug showed up that was preventing any images from being imported. Now that that is fixed, I can move on to why it is not recognizing existing images in your library.

    Thanks,
    Sky

I just did a bunch of testing, and here is what I found.

Using a test file, I was able to import a CSV of events that have featured images. I then deleted those events, but left the featured images in the library. I modified the CSV file to have the existing local image URLs instead of the originals, which were on the web, and reimported the CSV. No new images were imported, and the events had the correct featured images assigned to them.

Now, when I try this with a single event from your CSV (Ed Sheeran) and try to import from the column of images at https://www.staging1.gowherewhen.com/ it imports the “blank” image as was discussed at the beginning of this ticket. Remember, we determined that there was something with your host and cloudflare that is causing this. If I choose the other column “featured image web location” for featured images, it imports the image as expected. Going through the same process as in the first example, I then deleted the events, changed the url in the CSV to point to the local copy of the image, and re-imported. Everything works as is supposed to.

The images on the staging server still seem to be served from the localhost ip. You have all caching and cloudflare etc disabled on this as before?

    Hi Sky,
Sorry for the delay in me coming back to you. We’ve been trying a few different things my end.
Can I be clear – You imported the file with the web location URL as the featured image, then deleted the events out and imported it again using the gowherewhen URL? Am I correct in that thinking?
Yes – we have all caching. cloudfare etc disbaled.

    Hello,

Since I was testing locally, I replaced the URL with my local test URL after they were imported from the “web location” column.

When looking at the image header information, it was still showing the “localhost ip” when I ran the last test. Now, the images from the staging server are “404 not found”

This has been a tricky issue and we appreciate you bearing with us up until now. Though we did discover a bug relating to the import of images (and, as Victor noted earlier, that has now been resolved) we haven’t been able to uncover the specific issue that is impacting you.

I’d like to note a few things:

    * We can’t replicate this same problem on our end
    * Other customers are not generally reporting the same problem
    * There do seem to be strange issues specific to your site (that may relate either to your hosting configuration or use of CloudFlare)

In general, importing images via CSV should work as expected but if requests to retrieve images are blocked (or if they are redirected in ways that don’t make sense, as we saw earlier) there will indeed be problems … but situations such as those are out of our control and we can’t really help to solve them ourselves.

To summarize: we’ve reviewed this carefully and don’t believe there is a bug within our CSV import code, but we do believe there is some sort of problem with the way your site or server is configured and/or the way in which requests for static content are being handled via CloudFlare.

We’ve been poking at this for a while now and, regrettably, I’m not sure there is anything further we are going to be able to do on our side to assist.

Of course, let us know if you have further questions and we’ll be happy to answer them as best we can.

    Thanks,
    Sky

    Hi Matt!

It is possible to search or filter events with no featured image using a WordPress query, or within the database, but not in the admin or on the front end.

You could use a tool like WP All Import to set the featured image urls in the database directly, if you can add a column with the post id or slug to your CSV file. I know that’s not the most ideal solution, but it might be a work around if you can’t find the issue with the image imports.

    Hope that helps!

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
