    Hi,
We are using the basic events calendar and are having issues with the upload.

I have paid for the Pro version at this stage to get the support to fix the problem.

I would like to use some of the capabilities of the Pro version but I dont want to lose all of the customisation that we have done so far.

So my problem is that when we upload the csv file with the event details some are finding the images that we have already uploaded and some are not.

The media library already has the pictures uploaded and the URL to these pictures is in the CSV to upload.

Some of the events and pictures seem to match with no problem and some do not.

Those that don’t, create a new jpg file with a new URL but with nothing actually in the file (it is blank and greyed out in the media library).

This new file that it creates is attached to the event entry but it has not picked up the image correctly.

I have checked the URL for those events that have failed to match with the correct image and the URLs are correct.

    Can you assist please.

    Many thanks

    Hi there!

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues with the CSV imports. I will try to help figure out the problem.

Could you share the CSV with me that you are importing? You can post it here in a private reply. This may provide some information that helps me understand why this would occur.

    Thanks,
    Sky

    Thank you for providing that.

When I import these events, it creates “blank” image files for every event. I also checked the urls, and they seem to be working fine.

I am going to play around with this some more, and if I can’t figure anything out, I will create a bug ticket.

I will let you know by tomorrow what I find.

    Thanks for your patience,
    Sky

    HI Sky,

Sorry – I have another upload question. I have been uploading all the venues into the site. I uploaded 1 very large file and it stated that it had only added a few new venues and updated a few also. I then broke that file down into 2 files and it added another load of venues. Then broke one of these files down even further and uploaded it. It again added more venues. This doesnt make any sense as they should have all been uploaded in the first file upload.

    Thanks

    Matt

Ive just broken that last file down again and uploaded it – Its added more venues again. These have now been included in 4 files in the last 24hours.

    Hello,

I tried the import again with some different image urls substituted, and the images imported as expected. I then re imported the file, this time selecting the “featured image web location” column for the featured images, and they all imported. It seems that there may be some kind of asset protection enabled on the server your images are hosted on? Maybe try bulk adding the images to the media library, and then replace the urls with the new location before doing the import?

I re-imported this a few times, and it is not creating duplicate images.

I’m not sure I understand what’s going on with the venues. Can you provide me with the files you are importing? Are you saying you have venues in multiple files, and that they are being duplicated? Are you importing the venues as “venues” separately from the events?

Also, note this tip from the knowledgebase: “If you are planning to import venue and organizer information with your events, then you will need to import the CSV file for those venues and organizers before importing events.”

Can you tell me what order you are importing the different post types in?

    Thanks,
    Sky

    Hi Sky,
I am on my phone now so I cant get on to the chat for the moment but Siteground have just come back to me confirming that they have no security/asset protection on their servers that could be causing this issue and they also pointed out that if they did have it would block all images.
Let me know what you suggest next

    Hi Sky,
I am a little disappointed with this help functionality. I paid up solely to get your help on your product as our developers couldnt find the problem. Its been a week and it takes a day for a response and we’ve got nowhere.
Can you letme know about the Venue upload issue please and what we need to do on the event upload. We cant really take all the media out and add it in a again and update all the URLs as this is another week or so work. Unless you can suggest a quick process for it Also there is no guarantee that this will really solve the issue. It seems to me to be an event calendar problem as there is no security on the server.
    Thanks
    Matt

    Hi again,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re frustrated with the support process. I’ll do my best to help you get this resolved.

I will ask around if anyone else has seen issues with the images coming in blank. For me, all the images from that specific domain come in blank, and all the images from the other domains import correctly. I can reproduce this each time.

If you have already bulk uploaded the images, I was wondering if you could not just do a “search and replace” on the spreadsheet to replace the old URL with the new. The image names are all the same, correct? Though I’m not sure how it handles internal images vs external. Anyway, just an idea.

As to the Venue problem: I can’t help troubleshoot unless you provide me with the requested files. I still am not sure what your exact issue is, and I was hoping this would be more clear if I tried the import myself.

So, if you can provide the files, I’d be happy to take a look.

    Thanks,
    Sky

    Also,

Something I didn’t realize before: the urls in your import file are pointing at existing files in your media library? So, you are not wanting to import the files, just to point at the correct featured image?

Is it generating new copies of the files that look greyed out? Or is it replacing the existing files with the greyed out versions?

    Thanks,
    Sky

I expected the help process to be more 24/7 rather than it taking a day each time I message for a response.

“For me, all the images from that specific domain come in blank, and all the images from the other domains import correctly. I can reproduce this each time.” Im not sure I follow what you mean here.

If the new URL for the files is only a change in the date then I can do a search and replace. BUT are you sure that this solves the problem? I can then upload all the media files again and remove any that are currently in the library unattached. The image names will remain the same so the folder they are placed in in the library should be the only change I imagine.
“Is it generating new copies of the files that look greyed out? Or is it replacing the existing files with the greyed out versions?” It generates new files the original file is still there. But surely you discovered this for yourself when you tried the upload? When you tried the upload you said none of the events “matched” with the photo. Did you go in each event and check? Each one of those events should have had a new greyed out picture created for it if not.

“Something I didn’t realize before: the urls in your import file are pointing at existing files in your media library? So, you are not wanting to import the files, just to point at the correct featured image?” Yes correct (as I understand it)

I am slightly concerned that after a week on this you are asking these questions when surely you needed to understand this to help in the first place. Please can you ask around and see if anyone has previous experience with this as Ive now lost a week and feel like you still dont fully understand the issue.

With regard tot he venue issue – I thought I had sent you the files but seems not. I will do it immediately for you.

    Thanks

    Matt
