ParticipantThey packaged the plugin incorrectly when they released the update. It is now not wrapped in a folder, so it causes problems. I was able to fix my live site by ftping the update into the events-calendar-pro folder directly. This however caused me problems on my staging site (the plugin crashed my staging site completely) which may mean that it won’t work for everyone. I expect they will be releasing a 4.1.1 shortly.
Like everyone this also caused me a panic and was a crummy way to start my day.

MemberHey folks,
Thanks for reporting this. We are aware of these issues with the update to version 4.1 and we are really sorry for the hassle this might cause. We are actively working to solve these issues. I’ve linked this thread to the bug report in our backlog, so you’ll get notified here when we have some update or fix for this.
For now you can downgrade the plugins to version 4.0.7. You’ll find the past versions for our premium plugins in the download section of your account in this site (https://theeventscalendar.com/my-account/downloads/) and you’ll find the core plugin (The Events Calendar) past versions here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar/developers/.
Thanks for the patience while we work on this,
Best,

ParticipantYet another person panicking about their broken site.
Same issues as most of the above –
1. got the “plugin doesn’t exist’ message, then
2. noticed the plugins were deactivated,
3. reactivated and got a fatal error.
4. FTP downgraded both to pro 4.07 and core 4.07 and
5. yes the widgets are all working but the main events calendar page is still giving a 404 message.None of the above tips that worked for others have worked for me.
This plugin runs the calendar for a busy live music venue and it’s late Thursday night here in Australia – tomorrow (FRIDAY) (in 4 hours) is our busiest traffic day, sincerely hope you find a fix by then.
The whole point of paying for premium plugins is to guarantee this kind of cheap/rushed/untested upgrade crap doesn’t happen. Crappy and ultimately unsuccessful way to spend a Thursday night.

MemberHi there,
Thanks everyone for the patience!
We have released version 4.1.0.1 to address the general update & German language issues. We have corrected the glitch with the premium plugin folder names as well, so you can go ahead and re-download and re-install the plugins. You’ll find The Events Calendar update here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar/ and you can download the premium plugins from My Account > Downloads. Here you can find the details of manually updating the plugins.
One more thing, if you are seeing 404s on the calendar URL after the update please re-save permalinks (WP-Admin > Settings > Permalinks > Save Changes) and also re-save event general settings (WP-Admin > Events > Settings > General > Save Changes). That should solve the issues if any.
I’m aware this update solves the original issues described by Stephan, if someone else continues to have problems with the update please open up a new topic so someone in the support team is able to help you directly.
We are really sorry about these issues and we do test the updates before shipping the plugins! We test each bug / feature individually, then test the integration and finally we test the zip file that’s shipping. Even with these steps we get some bugs out sometimes, I guess it’s part of how software development works. Again we are sorry and these are not excuses, thanks for your feedback!
Please let me know if this fix works for you,
Best,

ParticipantHi Nico,
This did not fix my site. I upgraded to the newest versions, and I have done both saves as you suggested, and we are still seeing a 404 on our main event page: http://thezoo.com.au/shows/
I have posted a new topic to address this but thought I’d post here to alert you in case you were watching this thread.

MemberHey Martine,
Thanks so much for following up and also for opening a new thread so one in the team can help you directly which usually means faster and better!
Hope we can nail your issue soon, I suspect another user is hitting the same issue. I’ve suggested the following: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/v-4-1-cant-view-events-page/#post-1091184 – please give that steps a try and note your results in the thread were your issue is being worked 🙂

MemberHey really glad to hear Martine 🙂
Sorry once again for the hassle while updating, hope you can now enjoy 4.1!
I’ll go ahead and close out this thread as it seems that all other users could solve their issues with the minor update 4.1.01, but if anyone here still needs help with anything else please don’t hesitate to create a new one and we will be happy to assist you.
Best,
Nico -
