I’ve posted this in Pre-Sales Questions, but hoping I can get a response now that I have purchased a couple of license.

Here is the original thread for reference: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/question-about-tags/

When we click on the tag in an event, it goes to a page that says “Sorry, No Posts Found,” even though there are several events with the tag. This page’s URL is domain.com/calendar/tag/name-of-the-tag

The URL domain.com/calendar/events/tag/name-of-the-tag displays no results either.

The tag system seems to work with regular posts. Here’s an example of an event post where the tag doesn’t work: http://minesdevdev2.wpengine.com/calendar/event/chemistry-seminar-series-anne-co/

If you click on “Chemistry” tag you will only see the test blog post I created and tagged Chemistry, but not the two events with the same tag.

We’ve turned off the plugins one by one to test this. We’d like to be able to create RSS feeds by tag to use the event listings on other sites.

I was able to find some code that I added to our theme’s functions.php file that includes custom post types in tag queries.

For example, the page http://minesdevdev2.wpengine.com/calendar/events/tag/chemistry/ is now populated with calendar events.

Is this the way to go? Is it not built into the plugin?

The issue remains, however, that the tag links in an individual event are going to the wrong URL. For example, the tag links on http://minesdevdev2.wpengine.com/calendar/event/chemistry-seminar-series-smaranda-c-marinescu/ go to /calendar/tags, without “events,” so it only shows blog posts and not calendar events.

    Hello Mark!

Thanks for reaching out to us and for using our plugins! 🙂

Let me help you troubleshoot that issue.

First, let me note that by default, events make use of the built in post tags. So, if you assign a tag to an event called “chemistry” you should be able to find that event if you go to the following URL: yoursite.com/tag/chemistry. You can learn more about it here > https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/event-tags/

That said, it seems strange to me that you are getting the following URL for your event tag: “http://minesdevdev2.wpengine.com/calendar/tag/chemistry/

This could be related to a theme conflict, so could you please switch to a default theme like twenty seventeen and see if it changes anything? After switching the theme, please try refreshing your site’s permalink structure by going to the Settings > Permalinks and click “Save Changes”.

Also, when coming back, could you please share with us your system info by following this guide > https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/ ?

Let me know how that goes.

    Thanks,
    Victor

    Hello Mark!

Thanks for following up with this.

To me it sends me to a 404 page, which is not desired either, but what seems strange to me is that the tag URL is wrong.

Just to confirm, did you try refreshing your permalinks structure?

Also, could you please let me know what permalinks structure you are currently using by going to Settings > Permalinks ? Please try switching to “Post name” option and see if anything changes.

Finally, I can’t see your complete system information. Is that info you sent the only one that’s showing up when you go to Events > Help?

Let us know how that goes.

    Thanks,
    Victor

    Hello Mark!

Thanks for coming back with the system information.

I got confused before about the site URL. The tag archives URLs are correctly formed. For example, this one http://minesdevdev2.wpengine.com/calendar/tag/chemistry/ is the right URL to fetch the archive for chemistry tag.

The strange thing happening is that I can see the tag apparently being attached to the event, but in the tag archive it does not show any results.

In your first post you mentioned this: “I was able to find some code that I added to our theme’s functions.php file that includes custom post types in tag queries.” Could you please share that code with us?

Also, if you go to Events > Tags, do you see the chemistry tag showing in that list? Could you please share the URL for the tags admin panel?

    Thanks,
    Victor

    Hello Mark!

It seems everything is fine on that side, so this is a strange behaviour.

I know you tried deactivating the other plugins one by one, what happens if you deactivate them all at the same time? Do you see any difference? How about if you deactivate all other plugins and switch to a default theme? Do you notice anything different? Remember to try refreshing the permalinks between each step.

If you see no difference in those conditions, we’ll need to make some deeper troubleshooting.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best,
    Victor

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
