Events Calendar isn’t working properly with the importing of venues. Rodrigo seems to have had the same problem (https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/after-import-with-maps-api-key-use-latitude-longitude-not-checked/) but there’s no solution in the thread.

    My Primary Issue:

After I import my CSV file of venues the checkbox next to “Use Latitude + Longitude” isn’t selected. I have to go through manually, click the checkbox next to “Use Latitude + Longitude”, and then click update before they will take effect (the checkbox will be selected with the latitude/longitude filled in).

The issue isn’t with my CSV file because I’ve followed these guidelines to a t: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/csv-files-options-and-examples/

So far I’ve gone through manually after the upload, selected the checkbox and updated each venue individually. This can’t possibly be how it’s supposed to work is it?

    My Second Issue:

It appears I’m unable to use & in any of my Venue/Event Titles or Descriptions. When I do they’re shown as the HTML markup, &. As a workaround I tried using & rather than a plain ampersand, in hopes I was inputting HTML and would get just the ampersand on the front end but that didn’t work either. Any ideas on this?

    My Third Issue:

I’ve incorporated the Zip (Postal) Code for my venues on some of my initial imports, but they break the import preview and don’t allow me to see or specify any of my fields. Essentially, wherever the Zip/Postal Code is within my CSV, every column after doesn’t appear on the import.

    My Fourth Issue:

When importing “one-time” events via CSV, strictly adhering to the “CSV File Examples For Importing” page I referenced in my first issue, the END DATE on the INDIVIDUAL event page in WordPress’s back end shows up as the day previous. To be clear I’m seeing the proper start date and end date on the page with all events, I’m only seeing the previous date on the individual event page. I’ve tried this on multiple occasions, verified I had the same date listed for start date and end date ( ex. 2017-08-02, 2017-08-02 ), and it still shows the day previous for the event end date on the individual event page.

That brings up an additional thought that would be extremely, extremely helpful to I’m sure a large portion of your users. Are we going to be able to import recurring events soon? If not, at the very least could I get an example of how you structure your arrays for recurring events so I could parse them directly to my database instead of using import?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello Christopher!

Thanks for getting in touch with us!

    1. I’m sorry you are experiencing those issues. Let me try to help you with each one of them:
You are right about this. I have tried for myself and there is no “Use Latitude + Longitude” field to match from the CSV and I can surely see the use of this. I have logged a report about this so the team will address it in a future maintenance release. I also linked this thread to it so we’ll let you know when this is fixed.

    2. I could import events with ‘&’ in their names/descriptions. They do import as “&” but when the show up in the front end they appear correctly as ‘&’. Do you experience anything different? let us know about it.

    3. I could not reproduce this issue on my own installation. Could you please share the CSV so we can run some tests with it and see if there’s anything wrong?

    4. This seems a strange issue and possibly a bug. I will kindly ask you to open a new thread for it as this will allow us to keep things more organized (so we don’t mix up different issues). When you do, please share with us the CSV you are having the issue with. You can also link to this thread as reference.

When coming back, please share with us your system info by following this guide > https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/ This will allow us to make the tests on our side replicating the same settings as your site.

Are we going to be able to import recurring events soon? If not, at the very least could I get an example of how you structure your arrays for recurring events so I could parse them directly to my database instead of using import?

This is something that other users have already requested before, and is certainly something interesting to incorporate as a new functionality. Unfortunately, this is not something scheduled to make in the near future. You can add your vote to this request in our user voice here > https://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/17434264-add-csv-recurring-import-to-aggregator

The instances for recurring events are child posts (child events) to the main event (parent post). Does this help with what you are trying to accomplish?

Let us know how that goes and if you have other questions.

    Best,
    Victor

    Hey Victor,

Thanks for the reply. I was able to figure out a couple of the issues and will talk about them in case someone else is having similar troubles.

    1) Luckily for most of my venues I’ve been able to find their lat/long so I have included them in my CSV file while uploading so I don’t have to go through all of them and click the checkbox later. Part of the reason for purchasing Events Calendar Pro however is because it will automatically generate this fields if we can’t find them. It would be great if you could get this bug fixed.

    2) I have no issue importing venues/events with an &, the issue is it changes it to the html markup for an ampersand in the front end. I have the same issue when creating an event individually through the front end (I should probably note we are using Community Events as well so users can add their own venues and events), it replaces the & with & I’ve tried creating an event with the ampersand markup (&) as well as just the plain ampersand (&) and no matter what I get the same result.

    3) I figured out I just needed to force the type to text in my excel file prior to exporting to csv and it would let me upload the zip code.

    4) I haven’t figured out 4 yet and don’t really have time at the moment to get you everything.

    Thanks

    Hi Christopher!

Thanks for following up with this and for sharing your solutions.

    1. Absolutely! We’ll keep you posted about this fix.

    2. I made some tests on my own and it works fine for me. Meaning that I do see the & for the event title in the backend, but in the frontend of the site it shows only the &. Just to confirm, in the frontend of your site, are you seeing the & or & ? If you see the &, then it might be a theme conflict, so try switching to a default theme (like twentyseventeen) and see if any difference. If you see no difference, then you should try testing for conflicts to see if there’s a plugin conflict. Let us know how it goes?

    3. Great to know you could worked this out!

    4. No problem. Take the time you need as we’ll be here when you need it 🙂

    Best,
    Victor

    Hello Christopher!

Just wanted to follow up with this to let you know about the updates.

We’ve been reviewing the report for the Lat/Long issue you were having while importing venues via a CSV file and it seems I missed to find out that this is only possible with The Events Calendar PRO plugin activated.

If you have Events Calendar PRO installed and activated, you should be able to import the Venue Latitude, Venue Longitude and Venue Overwrite Coordinates fields. Please note that the Venue Overwrite Coordinates field will accept 1 and 0 values for the CSV import.

Could you please confirm that you see those fields available when importing from CSV? Let us know about it.

    Thanks,
    Victor

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.

    Thanks so much!
