Hey folks, we’re writing to let you know that we’ve seen a number of reports come in letting us know about layout issues with the latest update to Avada 4.0.2.

You may already know and understand this, but it’s worth noting that Avada includes a customized version of The Events Calendar right out of the box. The Events Calendar is a free download and Avada bundles our plugin to power it’s calendar functionality. In doing so, Avada also includes a set of highly customized templates that are unique to Avada that the theme author has coded specifically for the theme.

In this case, the latest update to Avada has introduced a couple of issues that are being reported to us here in the support forums. Here are a few examples of what’s being reported:

We are in touch with the fine folks over at Theme Fusions, the makers of Avada, to look into this further. The common denominator in these reports is that the calendar’s content seems to be missing paragraph tags in the latest Avada update, causing the calendar to appear squished or very unreadable. At the moment, we have identified a couple of possible reasons for the conflicts:

    • Updating from a much older version of Avada. If you updated Avada from a version before version 4.0, it is likely that you will notice significant changes in the calendar layout. As noted earlier, Avada has created its own set of custom calendar templates and those have changed significantly in the latest versions, pre-dating 4.0. You will certainly want to test a major update like this in a test environment before using it on your live site to make sure things are the way you would expect given the scope of changes between releases.
    • Past calendar customizations are no longer valid. We sometimes provide snippets to customers who are looking to change the way the calendar behaves or how it appears. If you have the latest version of Avada and have added any custom snippets to either your theme or child theme functions.php file or style.css file, then you will want to try removing those because it’s possible they no longer work and are now getting in the way of the theme and the plugin working together.

A simple recommendation would be to downgrade Avada back to the previous version you were using. However, we understand that is not a possibility for everyone since a number of other plugins rely on Avada and require the latest version in order to operate. Still, if you are able to downgrade, that might be the easiest and most effective fix while we are working on this with Theme Fusion.

Thanks for your patience and to all the folks who gave us a heads up!

Good news, folks! Avada 4.0.3 was recently released and, in testing it with The Events Calendar 4.2, it appears that the issues that were originally reported are now resolved.

Hats off to the Theme Fusion team, who were awesome and helpful in working with us to get this cleared up.

As always, please do let us know if you continue to see any issues and we’d be happy to check it out with you.

    Cheers!
    Geoff
