Has location search for a state been implemented?

Hi, I saw this post

View all events in a state? Default geo-location for states?

and am wondering if you have implemented in the two years since.

State/Province is a field so it would seem like those could be searched (for text match instead of location based).

We can put two letter abbreviations into the event names and instruct people that they can search that way, but it seems like extra instructions would mar your beautiful interface.

Hello Rodrigo,

I wasn’t able to find the internal ticket for that, but the search bar at the top should be able to search based on state. In the location field type in the two letter abbreviation of the state you want to list the events for.

Also, our Filter Bar plugin does support filtering by state.

Good to know it should work. It’s not working for me though. It must be related to the troubles I’m having getting location working.

Hello Rodrigo,

Thanks for sharing all the info with me.

Had a discussion with my colleagues to clarify this issue. The search for location relies on a Google API that does not always work great in searching for states. It sometimes can do regions, but it’s very iffy. “NY” works for example, but “CA” does not.

For best results though, do the search with the format City, State Abbrev

Or the aforementioned Filter Bar which supports filtering by States / Provinces.

I’m sorry that for the time being I cannot give you a full fledged solution. Your thread however started an internal discussion on this topic.
