Hi there, hope you’re doing great.
I’m trying to debug an issue where I switched themes and now my events/ archive page is 404ing.
I found a forum post that gives some tips on debugging 404s, but unfortunately the links to documentation pages are redirecting to the wrong place:
https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/404-on-events-page-after-3-9-update/
It links to:
404 Error Guide:
https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation/troubleshooting-404-errors/and here:
https://theeventscalendar.com/support/documentation/testing-for-conflicts/But neither of these pages seem to send me to the documentation in question.
Hoping to get pointed in the right direction.
Thanks!
January 26, 2015 at 5:30 am #937526davidkentParticipantAs a followup, I have switched my theme to 2014 and disabled all other plugins except for The Events Calendar, and I’m still seeing the 404 on the events/ archive.
I also tried switching to a different archive slug, as well as resetting permalinks, and neither of those helped.
January 26, 2015 at 5:31 am #937528davidkentParticipantYou can see the issue in my stage environment, here: http://test.kenthealth.com
January 26, 2015 at 5:45 am #937529davidkentParticipantYou can see on the home page that events are listed in the Upcoming Events widget, and clicking on one of them will bring you to that event. From there, if you click on All Events, you’ll get a 404.
I have a Pro license, as well as a woo tickets license, but I’ve disabled all plugins except The Events Calendar while we debug.
Here’s a listing of diagnostic info I found on the plugin setup page:

January 26, 2015 at 10:29 am #937716BarryMemberHi David,
Apologies for the mix up! The correct URLs for those resources, first of all, are:
- theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/testing-for-conflicts
- theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/fixing-http-404-errors
To the problem at hand, thanks first of all for sharing your system information which was particularly helpful here.
It looks as though you have enabled Agenda view but unless you have custom code in place to implement this I see no trace of the agenda view plugin. That could trigger a situation, like this one, where the main events page is unable to display anything.
Could you visit Events → Settings → Display and ensure you have enabled all the view types you wish to use and that your default view is set to one of them?
Does that help at all?
January 26, 2015 at 6:26 pm #937881davidkentParticipantThat absolutely fixed my problem! Thanks so much for the help. I’m not sure how that setting got switched, but it could’ve potentially been during database migration between the production and test environments.
Really appreciate your assistance resolving this issue.
January 27, 2015 at 8:42 am #938107BarryMemberGreat to hear that!
I’ll close the topic in that case, but if anything else crops up please don’t hesitate to let us know and one of the team will be only too happy to assist.
Also, if you have a moment to spare, we’d love to hear your thoughts on The Events Calendar across on our plugin review page.
Thanks again 🙂
