GuestHi,
I’m looking to build a marketplace that will allow pre-approved businesses to advertise free events and customers to register for a ticket.
Having read about the details of your Events Calender and Community plugins, I think they are very close to what I am looking for but I would also like businesses to be able to have a profile page.
Is this possible with the plugins or will I need to use them in conjunction with something else, like a multi-vendor plugin?
Also, I see there is an option to approve events before being published but instead could I approve new businesses at a ‘registration stage’ so that once checked out, they are free to publish events on their own?
Many thanks,
Chris

MemberHey Chris,
Great questions!
The Events Calendar and Community Events (used together) will definitely give you the ability to display a calendar of events that others can submit their events to.
Event Calendar PRO has a feature that automatically creates pages for Organizers and Venues. If a business were to submit an event, list themselves as the Organizer for the event, then Events Calendar PRO would add that event to a page automatically created for that business, including information on the business. Here is more information on how the Organizer and Venue pages in Events Calendar PRO work:
That will take care of event submissions, but you’ll want to add our other free plugin, Event Tickets, if you want those businesses to be able to create free tickets for the events.
Also, I see there is an option to approve events before being published but instead could I approve new businesses at a ‘registration stage’ so that once checked out, they are free to publish events on their own?
Absolutely. You can set the status of an event submission to go straight to Published instead of needing to be moderated in advance.
Does this help answer your questions? Please let me know. 🙂
Cheers!

GuestHi Geoff,
Thanks for your reply but to clarify further:
1. I read that the plugins do not support multiple calendars, would that mean organisers could not display their own calendar on their page?
2. Will organiser and venue details be saved for future events, so that the organiser doesn’t have to fill out these fields each time?
3. Could I approve trusted businesses before they begin posting events? Approving every event seems too much but at the same time I don’t want to allow anybody to post an event.
4. Can customers sign up more than one person (like family members) to the same event in one go?
I think these are all the questions I have. Once again, I appreciate your advice.

MemberHey Chris, thanks for following up! These are great questions, so let’s tackle them one a ta time.
1. I read that the plugins do not support multiple calendars, would that mean organisers could not display their own calendar on their page?
The calendar does not support multiple calendars. However, each organizer page will display a list of upcoming events specifically for that organizer.
Further, the Advanced List widget that’s included in Events Calendar PRO allows you to embed the widget in any page or post and filter the calendar to display specific events, like by a specific organizer.
2. Will organiser and venue details be saved for future events, so that the organiser doesn’t have to fill out these fields each time?
Yes, each time an organizer or venue is created, they will be stored and available to select for future events.
3. Could I approve trusted businesses before they begin posting events? Approving every event seems too much but at the same time I don’t want to allow anybody to post an event.
Yes, you can register the business as Users in WordPress, assign them to a user role and then configure the Community Events settings to allow submissions only from logged in users and for those submissions to go straight to Published status.
4. Can customers sign up more than one person (like family members) to the same event in one go?
Yes, absolutely. A customer can register as many other people for an event as there are tickets available for the event.
Does this help clarify things a bit? Let me know!

GuestHi Geoff,
It would seem the plugins do almost everything I require. I have one final question though. In relation to point 3, can I have two separate logins for businesses and customers so that customers can only register for tickets and not post events.
Apologies if it’s a dumb question but I’m pretty new to WordPress.
Thanks again,
Chris

MemberHey Chris, no worries at all — these are excellent questions. 🙂
In relation to point 3, can I have two separate logins for businesses and customers so that customers can only register for tickets and not post events.
I’m afraid that WordPress will only allow you to have one login for the site. So, in other words, businesses and customers would both log into the site using the same login form, but you can assign them to different user roles, which allows them to have different levels of permissions once they are logged in.
So, for example, Community Events can require that someone be logged in to submit an event to The Events Calendar. You can set the level of permissions to those able to submit events to those assigned to a specific user role.
The unfortuante thing is that our Event Tickets plugin does not allow you to require someone to be logged in to reserve a ticket for an event. However, you could customize the template for the ticket form by creating overriding the template in your theme, and customizing it by wrapping it in the WordPress function that checks whether someone is logged in before displaying it. That’s a little customization that you would need to do, but totally possible to accomplish.
Does this help answer your question?
Cheers!

GuestHi Geoff,
It does answer my question, thank you. However I think I’m going to require some help setting up the plugins as you have recommended.
Does Modern Tribe provide a custom install service and who might I speak to about it?
Regards,
Chris

MemberHi Chris,
Another great question. 🙂
Modern Tribe unfortunately does not have a service to help set up the plugins — however, we do have a list of freelancers who we would happily recommend if that’s something you’d be interested looking into:

Any other questions about the plugins I can help answer as you prepare to purchase them? Just let me know. 🙂

GuestI’m going to take a little time to consider whether to try this myself or to get help from one of your recommended freelancers but you’ve helped me a great deal, thanks a lot.
Cheers,
Chris

MemberMy pleasure! I hope the plugins are a good fit for you and I appreciate you writing in with such great questions.
I’ll go ahead and close this thread but definitely let us know if any other questions come up between now and when you purchase and we’d be more than happy to help. 🙂
Cheers,
