The latest update fixed the pushpins. However, Events Calendar Pro is now busting the homeblock carousels in Visual Composer/WPBakery Page Builder. Where it says “More News From The Front” on our front page, there should be several clickable recent posts. Disable Events Calendar Pro plugin, the posts come back.

Can you tell us what you changed in the latest update that might interfere with VC so we can finesse it? We use both these features quite a bit.

It also appears that displaying multiple events with the same venue in Map tooltips breaks when a shortcode category is indicated.

Can you please confirm that you are also aware of this and are working on it?

Been dealing with the same problem since the last update, among others–

This isn’t on the user end, Jeremy, it’s a problem with the update.

I’ve been having similar problems, Charlc. I suspect yours, like mine, have to do with changes Modern Tribe implemented in their July updates to try to deal with the changed way that Google is handling the Google map API keys.

    https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/event-pushpins-not-showing-up-in-map-view/

There are a number of requests here on the help desk that all seem to reflect this same issue. This isn’t on the user end, it’s on Modern Tribe’s end, though they seem reluctant to acknowledge it and inform the users.

In addition, Jaime, I think you should escalate this. Modern Tribe should alert users that the Google API change and corresponding EC fix have issues. People may not notice the glitches immediately or identify their source, but it seems clear that they will eventually and some are already starting to. Modern Tribe needs to step up and acknowledge there are issues not on the customer end or you’re going to have a lot of frustrated, angry customers.

    Thanks for commenting Johnskinnycook.

We have managed to resolve the problem with pushpins not appearing in mapview, but not the problem with category shortcodes not working. This is not on our end, it has to do with the July updates. We know this for a fact because when we roll back the July updates, the shortcodes do work.

Jaime, last month I followed the instructions you yourself posted and linked to in the June newsletter–

    https://theeventscalendar.com/important-google-maps-api-changes/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2018_june_newsletter

Soon after, we started noticing two issues. The shortcodes didn’t work right. Also, in mapview, events were listed by default from the beginning of the month forward, not from the current day forward. So old events were appearing as well as current and upcoming ones. After a lot of hairpulling, we traced the problem to the July updates. After we rolled them back, both problems went away.

However, a week or so later, we noticed a new problem–the same one I described earlier and that Johnskinnycook is also reporting.

Suspecting this had to do with Google API’s change, we created a new API key. This made the problem worse. Pushpins for new events with new venues still did not show in mapview and in the embedded maps on the single event views, we only got a grey screen.

We reinstalled the July EC updates. This reintroduced the short code problem and did not fix our other problems.

Googling for an answer, I noticed someone else having the same issue on a different app. Someone suggested they needed to generate a new code, then make sure maps were enabled in google console and “validate google console setup”. I generated another new code and followed these steps, which were not called out in your June newsletter, Jaime.

This enabled me to create new events with new venues and have them properly display in mapview and also in the embedded maps in the single event view, HOWEVER–

It did not retroactively fix events created with new venues over the last couple of weeks. To fix these, I had to individually open each of the new venues and click “update”.

With this done, we still have one outstanding issue:

The July updates broke the category shortcodes. Roll back to June and the shortcodes work, install July they don’t. It’s not a conflict, it’s not on our end–it’s the July update.

Jaime, can you please tell us how to fix this?

I appear to have mostly resolved this issue by crating another map API key and fiddling with it in Google console.

We still have a remaining issue related to maps since the latest update:

The map view category shortcodes are not working.

For example, the shortcode map on this page should only show events in the category “District 25”, but it is showing every event on our calendar:

    https://www.swingsocalleft.org/ca-25/

Also I have gone through the steps on the troubleshooting page to no avail.

    Hi Jaimie,

Our plugins are updated. Now I’m not seeing any map the single event page, and the pushpin for the event is still not showing on the map view. If I try to pull up the URL for the venue, it’s broken, even though it is listed in our database along many working venues:

    https://www.swingsocalleft.org/venue/the-hangar-2/

We don’t seem to be able to create any new venue listings at all that actually work. All are like this one.

My guess would be that this has something to do with the changes to Google API that went into effect earlier this month. I followed the Modern Tribe instructions to add a credit card to my Google API pin but that doesn’t work either.

Please let me know what else I can do.

    Hi,

No it’s not in the pending bin and changing it to “published” did not affect the result. I did, however, see this in the event log–

    Here’s another one!

    https://www.facebook.com/pg/DCWOC/events/

There’s clearly an event on the page, a general meeting on Feb 1. But if I click “Run import” on the scheduled import I’ve set up, I get nothing. If I edit the import and click “preview”, the event shows up in the list, but it will not import. Even if I do a one-time import and click on the URL for the event page, it does not import. In the history, all it says is “one event updated” for every attempt.

Jaime. That is incredibly complex. While The other add-ons seem like they are fairly advertised and can be easily used by the average WordPress user, saying that Event Aggregator allows “automatic imports to be scheduled run behind the scenes” is quite a stretch–at the very least, it requires some pretty intense knowledge and tinkering to even be partially true.

That’s not your department I’m sure, and I am going to try to make this work, but it will take time. Meanwhile I’d rather troubleshoot why some of the imports in the list I gave don’t work whether the import is a single-time or recurring import. Let’s take this one–

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/AlisoNiguelDemocraticClub/events/

If I try to import here, I get “your preview doesn’t have any records to report”, yet I can clearly see five events on the page. I can only import these events one by one. Why does this not work?

Here’s another one, with completely different and inconsistent results:

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/canyon.democrats/events/

Here I can import from the page and get three events the bus to the Women’s March, Training for Neighborhood Outreach and Voter Registration and Flip the House Pancake breakfast, but not Songbook for OC Women’s March or Candidate Academy.

Why on this page do I get some events, but not others?

    Thanks,

    Wayne

    Hi Jaime,

    I don’t think you’re understanding the problem…

I can import from Canyon Democrats too, either as a one-time import or by clicking the button on the list of scheduled imports. This is not the problem. The problem is that the scheduled imports are not running every day at their scheduled times as they are supposed to–not for any site.

This may not be obvious to you from the screenshot, as I manually clicked “run import” on every import on the scheduled list this morning one at a time about an hour before I took the screenshot.

You’re right, the URL for Seal Beach is wrong, and the DPOC link points at their main page not their events page, but this is not our issue. The scheduled imports are not running and failing due to bad URLs. They’re not running at all.

Hi Cliff, we’re still having some trouble, though I’m not sure this is the same problem. This event:

    https://www.swingsocalleft.org/event/monthly-canvassing-santa-clarita-ca-25/2017-12-10/

Is set to recur every month until 10/14/18. As you can see, the calendar is listing it as a recurring event, but not showing any events after the first one. I’m posting a screenshot of what this event looks like on the backend. Can you please help?
