Epiphany. Pro is the name of the plug-in not the level of suppport. I sorted this out on my own. The dates are controlled by a universal standard and Chicago supports CST. Not intuitive and a best practices would have been much more helpful than a check your plugins comment.

There are no conflicts. Can you just give me best practices or point me in a direction rather that just sending me your pat reply of it’s everyone else’s fault? I thought this was PRO support?

screenrage. Look at the documentation in the link in my reply. Add the parameters specified to get the default view that you want on that page.

Geoff, I am using Total by wpexploer however this same issue happens in 2016 so it is your code not a theme conflict. Set you home page to a static page and put nothing on that page but [tribe-events]. In your setting enable all views in events->settings->display->enable event views and then set your default view to anything but month since it’s the 1st view enabled. Now go to the home page and it will show the month view because it is the 1st enabled view. Now as you disable each view from the top down, this page will show the 1st enabled view. Empirical proof that the default view is not being used but rather the 1st view enabled. Additionally, the shortcode provided by YOUR PLUGIN clearly indicates that that shortcode overrides the default setting as it provides a “list” parameter. Please see your documentation here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/embedding-calendar-views-tribe_events-shortcode/.

Actually it was simply because it’s my main page which should have told you that I was adding it by using shortcodes which apparently completely override that setting in the backend. This is a new pro feature and the one that brought me back. But I guess you didn’t bother to actually look at my site. So I went thru disabling everything including the pro and when only that shortcode showed on the screen it set off a bell about the options. Rather hard to find on your site but I added view = “list” and the world is right again. You can help me by helping the next guy better and mark this as complete and look at my other ticket where it’s a real pita to access support because I have a refund on a prior purchase that always says my license is expired.

I am running 3.6.0 the very latest release. It was same problem under the prior release. Being a programmer my firt attempt at debugging was to changed the setting several times to different things and test. Nothing shows as the default except the monthly calendar. I will open an item with wpexplorer since you seem to have no idea why this does not work.

    1. I have added your Advanced Post Manager because the New Event email notification does not tell me who the Author of the event is. I need to know that. So I logged in to view the event. It does not show the Author. So I added the Author column, That does not work either. What can I do to work around this? I have to know who submitted the event.

    2. I have my setting on the Events->Setting->Display->Default View set to Photo but the calendar always opens in Month view. Calendar bug, theme issue?

So I have several events that have multiple sites, in one case, it’s a dine out for…all of the restaurants could be listed with links to their respective website but the link text is not intuitive.

Why doesn’t the event page show the link text as underline? The link works but it’s not intuitive

So this is the issue per the theme developer. Is this actually your issue or his?

    Hi Tom,

I am sorry to hear that 🙁 Hopefully the day will get better for you!

Correct the theme is 100% compatible with the core Events Calendar plugin. The community events plugin you mention is a core add-on that costs $89 which I do not own so can not test. I can email the Events Calendar company and request a copy of the plugin to test it out for you and see what may be the issue, but since you are already emailing me it would be much quicker and easier if you just send me the add-on plugin for me to test on my local installation and help you out.

Switching themes doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a theme issue. Also because the edit link is coming from WordPress, not the theme, then it’s not possible for the issue to be theme related. The fact that the links do not display on twenty 16 may actually be an issue with the twenty 16 theme because it should be showing the edit links.

This is a tricky case because on one hand you have the default twenty 16 theme that should be showing the edit post link and it doesn’t and on the other hand you have the Total theme which displays the edit link correctly but it’s not working. Plus, You the Events add-on plugin (I assume since I don’t have a copy to look) must be modifying user permissions because by default contributors can not edit posts once they are published. In WordPress by default contributors can only create posts and set them as “pending”. So if the Events Calendar community events plugin allows contributors to actually publish and edit posts then it must be changing the way permissions work which in turn could be breaking the edit post links coming from WordPress core. Again the edit link doesn’t come from the theme but it comes from WordPress main functions, so technically it could potentially also be a bug in WordPress itself 🙁

So you can either email the Events Calendar people to see if they can help troubleshoot the problem since they know their own plugin more then anyone. If you purchased the add-on legally then you do have support from the plugin developer. Or you can email me a copy of the add-on plugin so I can test things out locally and see if I can figure out the issue.

And of course there is always the option to hide the edit post button from showing up if this is something you rather do and I can help with that modification because it’s very easy.

I hope this clears things up for you and I am sorry to hear this hasn’t been a good day for you so far 🙁

    Best wishes,
    AJ

So, I logged in late this afternoon and saw a notice of an update to 5.3.1.1. I installed it and it brought my site down with an HTTP 500. My hosting provider turned the Event Calendar plug-in off and that let the site run but completely remove the calendar. So I am having them restore to last nights backup (again had to do this yesterday to debug your stuff) and that will put me back with a working version, I hope, but this has been one bumpy ride so far.

I won’t be a fast adapter of your updates anymore and will do my own backup so I can restore but how am I expected ro tun a web site with software that brings down the sit with an update?

So it would probably violate my agreement to send you mine then?

Hopefully you will open a change request on the incorrect previous message?

I’m not sure what you meant by your very last question but it navigates successfully to the event: Navigated to http://myfergusoncalendar.com/event/my-test-event/

Then to the home page when I press Edit: Navigated to http://myfergusoncalendar.com/

So the button is not even trying to go to: http://myfergusoncalendar.com/community/edit with an event id

It should be naviagting to: http://myfergusoncalendar.com/events/community/edit/event/2543/

I am convinced this is a theme issue. Either they are doing it wrong or I have missed a configuration but I have scoured the settings. So I opened a ticket with them.

    Thanks for you help.

    Hi Cliff.

Take a good look at the jpg I sent you. If it were trying to display upcoming events, the button would say “View past events” because that button changes depending on whether you are viewing past or upcoming. But the button says “View upcoming events” so I am trying to view past events and the message says ‘There are no upcoming events in your queue”. Pretty straightforward right? The message has to change depending on the view type. Promote the issue to your dev team. They will understand.

I will need email address to give you logins but not sure what you hope to accomplish. The Edit and Remove buttons are pretty obviously being added by the theme as they are not there in 2016 theme. I will address that with them.

You can have the zip file. That is publicly available at the theme forest but it’s too large to upload here. Download it here: http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs-category/getting-started/
