ParticipantMatthew thanks, your understanding of the issue is correct. The theme is a 2010 child and when i deactivate it all’s well. Further I ruled out any think in any of my overrides as if I remove the tribe-events folder from my theme folder I still have the issue. I am suspicious that issue is in my theme css file, if i remove it the calendar display is ok. But i don’t have any classes or id’s in there with “tribe” in them. Also if I examine the page with fire bug I cant see anything that causes the issue. Not sure where to look further than that.
Thanks
steven
ParticipantBarry thanks- turns out it was an interaction with a plugin called donation can, that creates a graph of donations made via paypal. Well figure out another way to do that.

ParticipantArgh- I figured it out there was a file event.htm left over from the previous iteration of the site sitting in the root that was causing the issue. I deleted it and all is good.

ParticipantYeah ive done that a few times, and did it just again now
If I change it back to its default setting, this url works as expected.

but not when i use custom structure /%postname%/steven
ParticipantBarry yes I still do. I had changed it back for the day so that it would function- Ive set it back the way it was when i initially submitted and the calendar is 404 again as I explained in my initial post. WordPress is installed in the /wp/ directory. I typically do install this way and then following the instructions at
https://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
set it to appear to run from the site rootsteven
ParticipantGives me a place to start if that’s how they want to go— thanks for the help
