I found a work around to my issue. I was able to go to another filter, Pending, which only had a couple entries. This permitted the page to load fulling, including the Screen Options button. I was able to open it, change the setting, save, and continue on.
Thank you.
msgrandlgeParticipantCaroline,
Thank you for the kind offer to help further. However, I believe I have resolved the issue.
Since we’ve tried so many things I cannot be 100% sure what worked, but I’m fairly confident that it was in installation and configuration of an SSL certificate that did the trick.
Why, how, etc., I don’t know… but once that was completed everything started to work. I was then able to re-load my regular theme & child theme, and all my other plugins, and it still works.
If it helps, should others experience this issue in the future, I am on BlueHost and they offer (at least currently) a free SSL cert for WordPress websites.
Thank you so much for all of your time and assistance.

msgrandlgeParticipantTrisha,
Despite the website being actively used I have opted to jump in feet first and have followed the instructions on the testing website.
The only plugins enabled are the ones for The Events Calendar. All else are disabled. I have installed and reverted to Twenty Sixteen. I cleared out my cookies and cache… and still experience the same issues outlined above.
What can we try next?
msgrandlgeParticipantTrisha,
I agree that caching seems to be the issue. For another example, if I attempt to login at /community/add, and it seemingly fails, but then I do a shift+refresh of the browser, the form will load. Further, if I use a cache-less browser, such as incognito in chrome, logging in straight away loads the form to add an event.
So, let me ask you, do you feel that it might be necessary to uninstall various plugins, or should disabling be enough? I have tried disabling nearly all of the plugins, but am still running into the issue.
I have, for the sake of mentioning, continually manually cleared my own cache, just in case, as well.
I will read into the testing document you sent but wanted to ask your feelings about disabling vs removing plug-ins. Thank you.
msgrandlgeParticipantI see that the licenses are reporting as active in the back end. Thank you Nico. I appreciate the assistance.
msgrandlgeParticipantNico, the purchase was made from the website. I logged in, added each to my cart, then paid.
msgrandlgeParticipant@Casey, the supplementary code did fix my issue, so I am grateful for that. I hope the team decides to make this a part of the regular program soon.
Thank you,
msgrandlgeParticipantI was expecting a captcha field to ‘just show up’ – alas, it is not there.
msgrandlgeParticipantSo. Did that. Have the requisite plugins. But no captcha appears on the community add event form. Thoughts? I feel like I must be missing something simple.
msgrandlgeParticipantMac, could you please tell us laymen’s how you use that code? Thanks!
msgrandlgeParticipantThank you Casey. I will look in to how to use that script. I have no idea how to use that code, but will try to figure it out.
msgrandlgeParticipantHi Casey,
Thanks for getting back. I understand that there is currently no other option that to make people sign in in order to post community events. However, I feel that the issue is unresolved because I do not feel that this should be a requirement. I hope your team is able to correct this soon. It seems very strange to me that there are very simple contact forms that have captcha but that a sophisticated plugin like this one does not.
Thanks you,
Jared
msgrandlgeParticipantI am sorry that I did not reply to my own post more quickly. I discovered that what I lacked is the Filter Bar add-on. Sorry for my poor wording, it was the filter bar that I was looking for.
Thanks you.
