When users try to login on the Community page the page simply refreshes and re-displays the login screen, rather than the form to add a new event.

The URL for the login is http://msgrandlodge.org/events/community/add

Interestingly, if you attempt to login here, and seemingly fail, but then manually go to another page on the site, the admin bar will appear and show you as logged in. But, if you try to go back to add and event you will again be prompted to login, and the cycle continues.

Further, if you go to the WP back-end login you will get the back-end and be able to access the events plugin and will be presented with only your events, as expected.

I’ve disabled all the plugins I can without causing a drop in website functionality for the users. I’m hoping there is something “known” about this and that you can help.

    Thank you,

    Jared

    Hello, Jared!

Thank you for using The Events Calendar! I can help with this ?

That certainly is puzzling! Has this form worked for you in the past? There aren’t any known issues that I’m aware of.

You say you’ve disabled all plugins that you can? Were you able to disable the caching plugin that you have? The behavior sounds slightly like it could be a caching issue.

To find out what’s going on you’ll really need to go through the Testing for Conflicts guide here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/testing-for-conflicts/

I understand this is a live site, we recommend setting up a duplicate or ‘staging’ site for testing purposes. This article may be helpful: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-create-staging-environment-for-a-wordpress-site/

Let me know if you have any further questions until then I’ll wait to hear back from you!

    Cheers,
    Trisha

    Trisha,

I agree that caching seems to be the issue. For another example, if I attempt to login at /community/add, and it seemingly fails, but then I do a shift+refresh of the browser, the form will load. Further, if I use a cache-less browser, such as incognito in chrome, logging in straight away loads the form to add an event.

So, let me ask you, do you feel that it might be necessary to uninstall various plugins, or should disabling be enough? I have tried disabling nearly all of the plugins, but am still running into the issue.

I have, for the sake of mentioning, continually manually cleared my own cache, just in case, as well.

I will read into the testing document you sent but wanted to ask your feelings about disabling vs removing plug-ins. Thank you.

    Trisha,

Despite the website being actively used I have opted to jump in feet first and have followed the instructions on the testing website.

The only plugins enabled are the ones for The Events Calendar. All else are disabled. I have installed and reverted to Twenty Sixteen. I cleared out my cookies and cache… and still experience the same issues outlined above.

    What can we try next?

    Caroline,

Thank you for the kind offer to help further. However, I believe I have resolved the issue.

Since we’ve tried so many things I cannot be 100% sure what worked, but I’m fairly confident that it was in installation and configuration of an SSL certificate that did the trick.

Why, how, etc., I don’t know… but once that was completed everything started to work. I was then able to re-load my regular theme & child theme, and all my other plugins, and it still works.

If it helps, should others experience this issue in the future, I am on BlueHost and they offer (at least currently) a free SSL cert for WordPress websites.

Thank you so much for all of your time and assistance.

    Good evening Jared,

I am super stoked that you found the cause of the issue.

    I believe you are right.
I noticed that there was mixed content issues (https and http) in the Google Console while visiting that page.

This has a history of creating issues.

There is even a plugin to help in case there is anything left you are unsure about regarding your SSL configuration https://wordpress.org/plugins/ssl-insecure-content-fixer/

You are welcome back in our support forums any time 🙂

For now, I am going to close this thread.

    Have a great week!

    Geoff B.
