September 16, 2017 at 2:06 am in reply to: How far in the future to set event series until…? #1350111
Lucy
ParticipantHi Shelby,
Thanks for your replies so far.
Ok so am I right in understanding that event posts are only created in the back end as far as you set the end date of the event series, but then as far as what is set in Events > Settings > Create recurring events in advance for:
?Eg. if i set my event series to end in 6 month’s time, but set Create recurring events in advance for: to 3 months in advance, will 3 month’s or 6 month’s worth of posts be created in the back end?
I recently did just that (Event series end in 6 months, create recurring events in advance for 3 months) – and am having problem with very slow performance in the back end. A particular event post will also not open at all – it gets stuck and i get a ‘wait’ or ‘kill’ message – see attached.
Could this be because my event series is set to end in 6 month’s time? – will ending this sooner – and keeping extending it – solve the issue?
Or what other things can affect the event posts opening in the back end – internet connection? – and you said before the hosting package may not be very good….
Thanks very much, i look forward to your reply 🙂

ParticipantHi Shelby, thanks for your reply.
So am I right that it doesn’t matter how far ahead my event series / recurring event end date is, it is what I have set in
Events > Settings > create recurring events in advance for: , that could have an impact on admin area performance, say if it was higher, like 6 months instead of 3?And are you saying that the ‘website unresponsive’ message is more to do with the quality of hosting package I am on?
Thanks again,
LucyLucy
ParticipantAddition: I sometimes get the ‘The webpage has become responsive’ (attached screenshot) message in Chrome (slightly different message in Firefox) – and don’t want to make this worse by having too many event posts in the admin area which i presume will slow it down…?

ParticipantHi Cliff, thanks for your message, and apologies if I’m sounded impatient- I just need to know whether I can make any updates to my clients website whilst we wait for the bug fix, as their whole business is based on the event calendar.
Many thanks,

Thanks

ParticipantHello, I have just updated the Event Calendar Pro plugin to 4.4.1, and the new recurring events / event series are still not working right. I know you said earlier on in this thread that the next update would be tackling the bugs in the new event series settings.
If i go into an event that runs weekly for the next 3 months, i only see ! in the Every: dropdown, but no tab selected for Daily, weekly etc, and no Show / Hide details to see the recurring rules.
I’m scared to update any of my events as last time i did this the recurring rules were disappearing and things were being removed from my calendar – please let me know what I should do?
Thanks

ParticipantUpdate: I usually use Chrome browser but thought i’d try Firefox in case the button wasn’t working in just some browsers – and it foes work In Firefox so I was able to add new recurring events.
So, if you could please just confirm whether for existing events where the recurring rules have disappeared with the update to 4.4; if i need to edit other info on these events shall I also just add back in the event series info, so i don’t get my original issue as above where these events disappear from the timetable?
Many thanks!

ParticipantP.S – what would happen if i reverted back to the older version of the ECP plugin before the issue with recurring events?
Thanks

ParticipantHello, I have just tried to add some new recurring events to my website, but the button for Event Series: Schedule multiple events is not working at all now…nothing happens when i click it. I need to add some recurring events to my calendar that start soon, and I can’t add them as single events as i display each event added in a page which is an overview of all events, so if i add them as single events that event will be repeated on this overview page:
http://www.omyogaworks.co.uk/classes/
What shall I do in the meantime before the next release to fix the bug is ready?
Waiting for your response as my client will not be happy with me if I can’t use the calendar until the fix is released!
Thanks

ParticipantHi Cliff,
Ok so in the meantime do I need to re-add in all my event series / recurring rules when I go to edit an event?
Thanks

ParticipantHello,
I have just updating my Events calendar and Events calendar Pro plugins to what I guess has the fix for my above problem.
Some of my events still don’t show the full recurring event rules (or Event series as they are now called) – please see attached screenshot – this vent occurs each week at the same time 0 but the Event series options are not set to this, they do not show whether the event is weekly, monthly etc – only the dropdown for ‘Every’ is set to 1.
Do I need to go into all my events and reset the event series rules now?
Thanks

ParticipantHi Andras,
Many thank for your speedy response as always!
I am trying the things you advised to find out what is slowing down my site, especially the timetable page, but i think i understand that i do not need to remove any of 200 my event posts if I am not showing them all at once on any pages – this is my website http://www.omyogaworks.co.uk – I have the standrad calendar page and posts pages, and then I have an overview of each event in each of the categories i have set for events eg. http://www.omyogaworks.co.uk/classes/ – this sholdn’t cause a problem should it? (these oviewview page are the fastest to load actually.)
I will do all the other elimnation tests and see how I get on.
Thanks again,
LucyAugust 5, 2016 at 10:03 am in reply to: Should I use W3 Total cache with The Events Calendar Pro? #1148283Lucy
ParticipantThanks for your links to all the info on caching.
I have decided to do trial and error with W3 Total cache, excluding minifying from all of the TEC plugin’s files. One question i have now is, if after each time i add a new event/amend one, i click to clear the cache with the button that pops up from W3 Total cache in the back-end, will this prevent the issue of events not updatin gon viewers machone? – or is it down to the viewer’s peronal browser cache whther it serves up the very latest verion of the site or not?
I hope that makes sense!
Thanks very much in advance,
Lucy -
