    Hi Folks,

Any update on this? Curious, and admittedly growing somewhat impatient.

    Andras,

Sorry, I’ve been out of town for my day job. I do very much appreciate your having taking the time to write out that code. Before I install it, I’m wondering whether it will be overwritten every time I update TECPro.

Also, and more generally, I’m still not understanding what it is about these empty venue pages, the the “There were no results found” message, that generates these errors.

    Hi Jennifer,

I’m seeing the same issue using the Twenty Seventeen theme enabled and all plugins disabled except TEC, TECPro, and the TECPro Venue plugin.

    Andras,

I’d be interested to know how this can be prevented. No one can be expected to always have at least one live event at all of their venues.

    Thanks! Lance

    Jennifer,

Thanks for your quick response. I’ve done a little sleuthing myself. I have two of your plugins installed: (1) “The Events Calendar Extension: Link Organizers to Website URLs” and (2) “The Events Calendar Extension: Link Venues to Website URLs.” Deactivating (1) doesn’t affect the problem. However, deactivating (2) does. It fixes the immediate problem of the venue name being replaced by the URL in list view, but of course the issue the plugin was designed to address returns.

I have several modifications to TECPro in my child theme (style.css, functions.php). But before I gather those, I’d appreciate knowing if it’s a simple issue with your “Link Venues to Website URLs” plugin. Did I say that this behavior is new since a recent update?

    Thanks! Lance

By the way, I’m using the Enfold Theme by Kriesi.

    Andras,

If I mark them as fixed, they reappear in the Google Search Console after a while.

The hallaminternet.com page for which you provided the link above refers me to the HTTP Status Code Checker site, which reports that all those TECPro created venue and organizer links are returning HTTP 200 responses. See screenshot below.

According to the author of that Hallam Blog page: “This is a prime example of a Soft 404 error, as the HTTP response code is indicating to search engine robots that the page exists and should be crawled. However, there is no content on the page that’s returned by the server.”

No content? I find myself still perplexed by this and would appreciate further recommendations.

    Thanks! Lance

Thanks, Frankie and Jennifer. This works nicely. If either of these plugins is developed further, I wouldn’t mind an option to have the organizer or venue link open in a new window, but that’s a smallish point.

    Cheers!

Thanks, Courtney. Sorry for the delayed response. I’ve just finished creating a child theme, and this code does not yet work in my child theme. However, I expect it has to do with something goofy with the child theme, since other code isn’t working quite yet either.

Good news is that your code does work perfectly in the Customize > Additional CSS box. So it must be correct.

    Best wishes! Lance

Many thanks, Mathew! This did the trick. My next job: set up a child theme.

Many thanks, Andras and colleague. You guys are fantastically helpful.

I’m just leaving the US for a few weeks, but will try it out upon my return and report back.

    Andras,

I’m curious as to whether there’s any progress, or further thought, on this prospect. It certainly be useful to us, and perhaps others.

    Thanks! Lance

Sorry, but I’m not sure how to find the WP Admin Bar’s “Edit Series” link. Even less do I know how to look in the database.

Let me ask a simpler question: We never use recurring events. However, for some odd reason I’ve found that the “Schedule Multiple Events” button (perhaps inadvertently) has been turned on, and multiple instances have been mistakenly created.

Is there a way to simply disable the recurring events function? I tried putting “0” in the “Clean up recurring events after” and “Create recurring events in advance for” settings, but it was not accepted.

    Thanks, as always.

    Andras,

    Thanks for this helpful response.

What I can do for you is check if it would be quick to do a custom code that would show you the past events, if there are no upcoming events in a category. Would that help?

there could be an option for events categories to show all events, but in reverse chronological order, with the most recent at the top

This needs some clarification. You want to see the most recent (event from tomorrow or this week) at the top, of the one furthest in the future? I’m sure any of the 2 would be possible with a bit of customization.

We’d be delighted if there was an option under categories to show all events in reverse chronological order, starting with the furthest in the future (if such exist) or otherwise, if there are no future events, the most recent.

Then I suppose this would also, at the same time, solve the issue of empty results pages generating GSC errors. (I imagine that our page is not the only one that might experience this latter issue.)

    Thanks! Lance
