ParticipantHi there,
I’m rebuilding a very old website that is running Events Calendar Pro Version 1.3 | By Shane & Peter, Inc. and would like to update the plugin to the current version while retaining the event database.
The site is running the above version of the plugin, and has two folders in its plugin structure – events-calendar-premium, which seems to be the actual plugin and Events_Calendar_Pro, which looks like it’s left over from a previous plugin upgrade that took it to the 1.3 version.
I’m a bit stuck, because the plugin has changed names a few times and I’m not sure how to update it to current while retaining the events and their details. I found this old thread:
It discusses a similar issue, but when I go from 1.3 to 1.6.5, the plug-in seems to lose our events, I’m assuming because the name and folder structure has changed.
Any advice on the correct procedure to get up to the current day would be much appreciated. Thank you!

KeymasterHello Seth,
Thanks for using our plugins for so long and welcome to the forums!
Wow, I’m officially impressed. 🙂
Normally you shouldn’t lose any data with an update, however version 1.3 was waaaaay before I joined so not fully sure about that.
How did you do the update to 1.6.5? Was it through the dashboard? (Deleting and installing the new version?)
Did you try updating the plugin via FTP? (Deactivate, Login to FTP, rename or remove the old version folder, upload the new version, Activate)
Meanwhile you check this I will try to look around to see if I can find any more useful info beside this article which you most probably saw already.

ParticipantHi Andras,
Thank you for your response!
It looks like after that version 1.3 update, the ability to perform updates through the dashboard dropped off, and that’s why the plugin stayed there, lost in time.
I tried a manual update as you said by deactivating, logging into ftp, removing the old version and uploading 1.6.5. When that didn’t work I rolled back to 1.3 by deactivating 1.6.5, removing it and dropping the old folder back in.
Any assistance would be very much appreciated! Failing the ability to update without losing the events, is it possible to export and re-import them reliably?

KeymasterHello Seth,
Sorry to heat that didn’t work out. Not sure why.
You could try the following: do a CSV export of Organizers, Venues and Events with a plugin like this or this or something similar.
After the export deactivate the old version, and install the newest The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO.
Then go to Events > Import and import the CSV file. Here’s a guide on how to do imports so that you get the most out of it.
This approach might be even faster than updating the plugin step-by-step.
It also might be worth first checking the import on a test site, just in case. And a backup of the live site before doing anything major is always recommended.
Let me know how this goes.
