GuestThe FAQ has a question about upgrading from free to PRO, and says the stored calendar data does NOT have to be re-entered. I have a similar question about versions. The website I just inherited is running Events Calendar Pro version 1.3.2 and you’re now at 4.0.5. Can you tell me if I can safely upgrade, skipping two major versions?

ParticipantHowdy Mike,
Good question, I’m glad you asked. We have a number of people who have been with us since 1.x days. However, it is not a good idea to jump the far in one step.
Here is what I would do if I were in your shoes:
- First, make sure you have a good backup. Tutorial: Updating WordPress and Making Backups
- If memory serves you shouldn’t have Events Calendar Pro installed at all, only The Events Calendar. But if you do have Events Calendar Pro I would disable it for now.
- Now upgrade to each major version between 1.4 and 4.0. You can find the links to download them here. I would download each of these versions:
- 1.6.5
- 2.0
- 2.0.11
- 3.0.3
- 3.4.01
- 3.10.1
- 4.0.4
- Then I would do a manual upgrade to each of those versions, starting with 1.6.5 and working your way to 4.0.4.
I realize that’s a few hops. It’s mostly out of an abundance of caution. You could try skipping a few of those and probably be fine. But we have not tested directly updating from that old of a version in a while, and we know the hop method above typically works great.
Once you’re done, then you can download and activate the latest Events Calendar Pro.
Does that all make sense? If you need further help, would you mind logging in with the account you created when purchasing Events Calendar Pro? Then I can move this topic to our support forums and continue it there.
Cheers!

GuestBrook,
I expected something like that, though it’s more hops than I expected. I’ll have to see if I’d be better off just re-entering future data.
The plugin says “Events Calendar Pro … Version 1.3.2 | By Shane & Peter, Inc.” So it predates Modern Tribe.
I don’t know what account was used to purchase the earlier version, or when, or whether it’s valid here. But yes, I’ll use the regular Support Forums after we purchase the new version. Thanks for getting back to me the same day with such a detailed reply.

ParticipantHowdy Mike,
I am happy to help! You’ve definitely been with us a while to not even be on Modern Tribe’s version.
You might be perfectly safe doing:
- 2.0
- 3.0.3
- 4.0.4
But since manual upgrades are fairly quick to do, but testing to see if anything is broken can be lengthy, I figured why not do the upgrade? (Manual Updates Tutorial)
At least most of your data should import, even if jumping direct to the latest version. If there is any corruption it is likely to disappear by simply resaving an event. If there are missing details though, these will need to be filled back in.
Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers!
