ParticipantHi There,
I am using wordpress with Acoda You theme, and have just updated wordpress to the latest version, and also updated Events Calendar to 4.5.9 & Community Events 4.5.3.
But my site completely crashes and returns 500 Internal Server Error and dies. The only way I can get it back online is to go through cpanel and delete the plugin files from file manager.
I noticed these two errors in the log, but I don’t know what they mean. I am not a developer…just a regular DIY person trying to manage their own website. Thanks.

MemberHey Louise,
Thank you for reaching out to us! I’m very sorry about this issue you are experiencing, let me help you to solve this!
The 500 Internal Server Error is a very general HTTP status code that means something has gone wrong on your website’s server, but the server could not be more specific on what the exact problem is. This status code is usually associated with a PHP Fatal Error, so to help us to identify the cause of this issue, can you please check your PHP error log? If you don’t have access to this log, you can ask your hosting provider to share this info with you.
You can also check this by yourself by temporarily enabling WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG via FTP and share with us any messages you see while accessing your homepage. All WP_DEBUG messages will be stored in a debug.log file in /wp-content/debug.log.
If you have any other questions in the meantime, please let me know and I’ll be happy to assist!
Regards,
Patricia

ParticipantHi Patricia,
Thanks. I’m not sure where to find the PHP Error Log, but I found an error log with these lines in it:
The problem is intermittent. Sometimes it happens, but other times it is fine. Happens more often when I am trying to access the event calendar to submit or view an event.

MemberHi Louise,
You’ve found the correct error log, thanks for sharing this info with us 🙂
Can you please let me know what is the version of The Events Calendar (TEC) you are running? We’ve had some issues in the past (specifically with TEC version 4.3.1) and updating the plugin solved the problem.
If TEC is already up to date, this could be the result of your site’s server running an old version of PHP. While we do try to support old versions of PHP 5.2, because WordPress itself does, using out-of-date versions of software like this is bad for security and site performance.
Can you please share your system information with us? This would be very helpful to solve your problem.
Thanks!
Patricia

MemberHi Louise,
Thanks for sharing your system info with us! As I can see from here you are running a recent PHP version, so it is probably not the cause of the issue you are experiencing.
I’ve ran some tests, but couldn’t replicate the error in my own website.
We released yesterday a new version for both The Events Calendar and Community Events: can you please update your plugins and check if the issue persists after that?
If the update doesn’t solve your problem, there’s probably a plugin or theme conflict causing it. In this case I would suggest you to follow this tutorial to find out what is generating this PHP Fatal error.
I hope this helps! Please let me know your test results and I’ll be happy to further investigate if necessary.
Regards,
Patricia
