ParticipantHi,
almost every time I update either the the Events Calendar plugin or the Tickets plugin I receive an error message (see attached screenshot). The bold message translates to: The old plugin couldn’t be removed. As it is a test-website the setup is still very simple. I’ve already contacted our webspace provider, as I thought it might be a general problem, but they couldn’t find any problems regarding the server.
Regards
Dominik

MemberHi, Dominik. Sorry you’re experiencing this.
I’d suggest asking your host to make sure your directories and files have the proper permissions.
These might be helpful references:
- https://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress#File_Permissions
- https://www.smashingmagazine.com/2014/05/proper-wordpress-filesystem-permissions-ownerships/
If needed, you can also perform Manual Updates.
Let us know what you find out.
Thanks.

ParticipantHi,
I’ve already informed my host about this before I opened the thread. They told me as well to check the file permission. They were alright but I reset all permissions to 644/755 anyways. This didn’t have any effect on my update problem.
If the update doesn’t work I have to reinstall it anyways which is the same work as a manual update…
Regards Dominik

MemberOk, that’s correct… and the-events-calendar/the-events-calendar.php file’s permissions are 644, right?
If yes, maybe you need to look into your wp-config.php Upgrade Constants: https://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#WordPress_Upgrade_Constants

ParticipantIt is set to 644 as well.
FS_METHOD is direct. Which method would you suggest?

MemberDominik, I believe that should work. Are you experiencing issues with any other plugin or theme automatic updates?
Does The Events Calendar core/free plugin from WordPress.org automatic update work but not PRO? Same for Event Tickets vs Event Tickets Plus?

ParticipantHi,
so far not. There are 3 other plugins installed on this site, but non of them had caused any troubles.
So far I always triggered the update manually, but I’ve experienced almost every combination of working/not working. As you can see in the screenshot, the The Events Calendar core and PRO combination didn’t work as well.

MemberI’m really not sure what else I can do to assist here, Dominik.
Automatic updates are working for pretty much everyone else to my knowledge. I know web hosting can be frustrating, but we can’t know or assist with your hosting.
Maybe your php.ini file or restart your server or move your site from one server to another (even within the same host)???

ParticipantHi,
so I get back to my hoster again.
I’m not sure if this might be connected to this problem, but I get many errors in my logfiles regarding to the Modern Tribe plugins:

MemberI see I didn’t provide our recommended testing process yet. I’d recommend trying it out:
There might be some new updates available. Could you please make sure all your Modern Tribe plugins (and WordPress core) are at their latest versions?
Once you verify you’re on the latest versions, please test to see if the issue is still happening for you.
If it is, please follow our Testing for Conflicts Guide (basically switch to TwentySixteen theme and deactivate all plugins and custom code other than Modern Tribe plugins) and see if that helps narrow down the cause of this.
If it doesn’t, please enable WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG and share any PHP errors you see while changing tickets quantity, navigating your site’s home page, events page, single-event pages, and any other of your site’s pages relevant to this ticket.
Then, please share your System Information (while in Testing for Conflicts mode).
You might also see if you can spot any console errors at your site. (If needed, you may reference our KB article Using Google Chrome Developer Tools.)
Let us know what you find out.
Thanks.

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
