ParticipantSo we have been using the free version of events calendar plugin on our website for some time now and today we purchased license for PRO version. I downloaded the PRO version of plugin and installed it on our website wordpress but it keeps showing this message: “To begin using Events Calendar PRO, please install the latest version of The Events Calendar.” But under Plugins section on wordpress, it does not show me an option to upgrade for the events calendar plugin like it does for others.
Can you help? How can I update the free version of events calendar plugin since that is the requirement for us to be able to use PRO verion?
Thanks

MemberHi there Raj,
Welcome to our support forums and thanks for reaching out to us. I can help you here ๐
Basically Events Calendar PRO work as an add-on to The Events Calendar. This means both plugins need to be installed and activated.
If you still have doubts please check out โ New User Primer: The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO.

ParticipantThanks for your quick reply but as I said, the free version of events calendar plugin has already been installed on our website. And when I tried to install the version 4.5.3 of the “the events calendar” it fails saying “the directory already exists”

I’m sorry to hear about the issue continuing. This should be really simple really.
Can you please go to ‘WP-Admin > Plugin > Installed plugins’ and remove ‘The Events Calendar’ and ‘The Events Calendar PRO’? If they don’t show up in the list, you might need to log in to the site via FTP and manually delete the plugins (https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/manual-updates/). Once that’s done, just re-install the plugins as explained here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/new-user-primer-the-events-calendar-and-events-calendar-pro/
Also, please note that our replies might take up to 24 hours!

ParticipantI see them under “installed plugin” but as I said, we have been using the free version of plugin on our website and it already have few events added. If I remove it now, will I not lose all those events?
Thanks

MemberThanks for following up Raj!
Deleting the plugin files doesn’t affect the event data in database. But if both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO are showing as installed and active. What’s not working? Sorry if I missed something.

ParticipantNo. We do not have both plugins active. Let me try again to explain my issue.
We only had free version of event calendar plugin installed and we are using it fine. Now we purchased the PRO version and I was able to install it fine on website but it keeps saying that if I want to use the PRO version of plugin, I need the latest version of free plugin, but there is no option to upgrade the free version of Event Calendar plugin.
You are asking me to remove the free version of plugin and install the latest version again but I do not want to lose the events we already have on our free plugin.
Hope this explains the issue and I get some resolution to it.

MemberThanks once again Raj!
I was misunderstanding the issue slightly! Looks like indeed you have a quite old version of The Events Calendar (3.12.x) and you should def update it to work with latest PRO. If no updates are showing for The Events Calendar, there might be something preventing those from showing (maybe the site is in an intranet?). You’ll need to proceed manually (https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/manual-updates/).
As you are going to update quite a few versions at once, I highly recommend backing up the site content and files just in case anything goes south. Mostly sure it’s a super easy process and you’ll be done in a couple of minutes, but better to be safe than sorry.
Please let me know how it goes,
