GuestHere’s what I would like a calendar to do –
1) When a specific icon is clicked on the front page of my site, take it to a page with a monthly view of the events calendar.
2) Have a place where someone reading the site can click on an add your event button and add their own event.How do you do these two things? Thank you
I am in the free version just testing it out.November 7, 2016 at 10:18 pm #1188952Geoff B.
MemberGood evening KS and welcome to the Events Calendar forum!
Thank you for your interest in our products.
We’ll be glad to answer your questions.1) When a specific icon is clicked on the front page of my site, take it to a page with a monthly view of the events calendar.
That is fairly easy. All you need is to use a page builder that has icons/buttons with the ability to provide a link for the button.
As an alternative, you could use a basic link and style it to your liking with CSS.
From there you will simply need to put the URL you have defined for the monthly view of events (e.g.: http://www.yoursite.com/events)
2) Have a place where someone reading the site can click on an add your event button and add their own event.
For that purpose you will need to get a copy of our Community Events plugin: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-community-events/
Here again, you will be able to define the link at which you want the “Add event” front-end form to appear on your website (as well as control different settings pertaining to submitted events).
Just like previously, you will simply need to put the proper URL link in your button or your link.
Let me know if that helps.
Have a great day!

GuestHi Geoff,
Thank you
I have the front page already, with icons that link to pages. One of the icons already links to an events page. How can I add your calendar to the page that is already linked? Without having to change the page? To have it open up in calendar view?
ThxNovember 14, 2016 at 7:14 am #1191813Geoff B.
MemberHey KS,
That is a great question.
By default our calendar does not use a “real page”, but rather the archive template of your WordPress theme.
But, the good news is that you should still be able to accomplish what you are looking for.
To do that, you simply need a copy of the Events Calendar Pro: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-events-calendar-pro/This will give you many awesome features, including the ability to embed your full calendar in any page of your choice by using shortcodes: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/embedding-calendar-views-tribe_events-shortcode/
Let me know if that helps.
Have a great day!

GuestThank you Geoff. I went ahead and linked the page it’s on to the icon.
The lettering for the month name is invisible on the site – my site background is black. Don’t see how to change that to white?
Also, would there be any good workflow for downloading events from another online calendar, and them import them into this calendar, without having to enter each one manually? (I don’t know if there’s a way to download events in bulk – never tried to do that before).
That’s a right nice little calendar. Right now the focus is to just get a working model of the site. Once it’s up, I hope to grow to the point where it can be scaled for larger community use and at that point will likely need to purchase the pro version for more features.
Thanks =)November 15, 2016 at 2:58 pm #1192757Geoff B.
MemberHey KS,
I am glad the previous answer helped you out.
Regarding the look of the calendar on your website, could you give an URL so that I can take a peek ?
In the meantime, you might want to experiment with the first 2 settings found at Events -> Settings -> Display.
Also, would there be any good workflow for downloading events from another online calendar, and them import them into this calendar, without having to enter each one manually? (I don’t know if there’s a way to download events in bulk – never tried to do that before).
Yes there is. There are 2 ways you could do this:
- Using our built-in CSV importer: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/csv-files-options-and-examples/ and https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/importing-data-from-a-csv-file/
- Using our Event Aggregator online service: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/event-aggregator/
Let me know if that helps.
Have a great day!

GuestThanks Geoff, I’ve sent the link.
Don’t want to overstep by asking support before purchasing the pro version. Need to be able to see the name of the month on the calendar though against the background! Maybe it’s my fault it’s not changing. Thanks againNovember 17, 2016 at 9:20 am #1193983Geoff B.
MemberHey KS,
Thank you for the link.
Unfortunately I am on nightshift duty today, so I will only be able to look into this tonight.
Hang in there,

MemberHey Lynn,
I forgot to suggest to reference this thread in the email, but I still was able to retrieve your email.
The simplest solution short term is to add the following CSS rule to your theme’s style.css or Custom CSS section
#tribe-events-content {
background-color: #fff;
}Let me know how that goes.
