    Hello,

I’m looking for a way to display the photo view in only 2 columns on some pages. Is this possible and if so how?

In addition, only the main event of a series of recurring events shall be displayed on these pages.

Perhaps there are possibilities without php? I am very grateful for help.

    Best regards

    Hi Anne,

    Thanks for getting in touch!

I’m afraid that the Photo View layout is not directly configurable in the plugin settings. The layout will always be three columns, except on smaller screens, where it narrows to a single column.

However, yes, it is possible to show only the first instance of a recurring event instead of all of them. You can find that setting on the Events > Settings screen:

Selecting that option and saving your settings will hide all recurring events, except for the next upcoming event in the series.

Does this help answer your question? Please let me know. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Cheers!
    Geoff

    Hi Geoff,
Thank you. I understand that there is no way to create a 2-column layout for the default event page with PhotoView. Ok, I can live with that. I had probably asked my question too general.

    What I really want is:

    1. I have a special contribution page with other content, we call it “category page” or “archive page”. In addition, I would like to present some events in the photo view via shortcode. I had already tried, using Shortcode the photo view – filtered for a certain category – there. Unfortunately, there are 3 columns. My overall layout has only 3 columns. And I absolutely need the 3rd column for other content! It just does not look nice to suddenly have these 4 columns to have … fonts would be too small to make sense with the breaks readable … it just does not fit into the overall concept of the page …

For the 2. part of my question, I now assume that it is actually the same on the same as in my other ticket, I am precise there. (https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/search-special-shortcode-for-archive-page/#post-1259507)

I hppe of good way. Best Regards!

    Hi Anne,

Thanks for following up! I appreciate the extra context for what you’re doing!

The shortcode embed of the calendar will take up all of the space it is provided. If you want another column for content next to the Photo View embed, then my suggestion is to create a new template in your theme that has two columns: one for the page content and one where you can embed the Photo View. That will give you both components on the same page in the layout you are looking for, but it will take a little bit of custom work on your end to create that template.

And, yes, you are correct about he recurring events setting I recommended being the same setting that Victor mentioned in your other thread. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Cheers!

Thanks, Geoff, but I have to ask a bit more … ๐Ÿ˜‰

I use a page builder (SiteOrigin) for my website. I can create as many additional columns as possible for the other content – this is actually not the problem … the problem is that then these 3 columns of the photo view does not look beautiful – they become much too narrow …. and I have On all other sides always only 3 columns – here it is now 4 … I would have to reduce the font sizes significantly and it looks then everything completely different than on the other sides … I would like to avoid.

In my first ticket (with the too many questions at one time ๐Ÿ˜‰ there was an answer, which I would like to follow here. I had asked: “I would like to create the photo view in only 2 columns on some pages. How can I do this?”
Barry had answered there: “Custom CSS is probably the best way to achieve this. If you want more specific guidance, please do create a fresh support topic for this issue.” – So now I have created a new topic and ask for this specific guidance. If it is not possible with the short code, then I would like to try it with CSS. I am thankful for every hint. Do you have a tip?

I hope the Google Translotor will translate well and you can understand me …

    Hopeful greetings

    Hi Anne,

Thanks for clarifying what you’re looking for. I understand now that you are using a page builder for your layout and are trying to embed a customized Photo View into it with two columns instead of three.

I realize it was suggested that custom CSS is could be a possibility to make that happen. However, I have tried looking at the CSS and was unable to do that — at least, I was unable to find a straightforward way.

It might still be possible to do it but, at this point, I think it will take more customization that we are able to support here in the forums. We do have aย Themerโ€™s Guideย that can help get you started with how to write custom CSS for The Events Calendar. We also have a list of freelance developers who we’d be happy to recommend for this level of custom development.

Also, if it helps, this is the element that I believe you would need to target for the customer CSS:ย tribe-events-photo-event

I think what makes this even more challenging is that Photo View also relies on Javascript to form the layout. Some of the CSS is being injected that way, making it tough to override the default layout styles. Perhaps that is where a developer will need to dig in.

Sorry I do not have a concrete solution here for you, but I do hope this at least helps point you in the right direct.

    Thanks,
    Geoff

Hello Geoff, thanks for the reply.

But unfortunately she does not help. Whenever it becomes exciting, it is referred to cost-intensive developers. Unfortunately, we can not afford it. We are just a small club that promotes with a lot of heart blood culture. The plugin is already quite expensive and you should think it could be given more support … I am a little bit disappointed that it is soooo complicated … and not all flowering dreams can mature … ๐Ÿ˜‰

Nevertheless thank you, it works fundamentally …. And I have now helped me with other plugins, which in the interaction do what I would like. This certainly brings other problems with itself … Meanwhile, the site is now online.

A question on the edge: Do you know if there is a German-speaking forum somewhere?

    Hi Anne,

I am truly sorry that my attempts to support you here have led to disappointment. We try to make our plugins as flexible and customizable as possible, but there will inevitably be cases where the level of work required to customize the plugins will require significant development rather than support and thus is certainly on of those cases.

I do want to note that we have a list of people who we would happily recommend for further custom development work, if you are interested:

A question on the edge: Do you know if there is a German-speaking forum somewhere?

We do not have a German forum here on our site, though there are a couple of us on the team that have some fluency in it. Next time you post a thread,ย we’d be happy to try to communicate with you in German, but might have to go back to English depending on how it goes.

I’ll go ahead and close this thread but let us know if any other questions come up and we’d be happy to help. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Cheers!
    Geoff
