    Hello,

My location search has never worked, I found a Google Geoloc Troubleshooting plugin from another forum user, and this is what the result was:

    Google Geoloc Troubleshooting
Testing with the default reference address
Results not provided by Google – status code: OVER_QUERY_LIMIT

Would you please be so kind to help me resolve this?

    Thank you.

    Juan.

Good evening Juan and welcome back!

Thank you for reaching out to us.

We are sorry to hear about the fact that the location search never worked for you.
I would love to help you with this topic.

To begin troubleshooting, there are a couple of things I would need from you:

    1. Could you please give me an example of something you would type in the search bar when searching by location ?
    2. Could you also please go through our testing for conflicts procedure (preferably in a staging/dev environment or local install of your WordPress website) and let us know what you find out. Basically the goal here is to revert back to a bare WordPress installation to see if the problem persists. It also allows us to pinpoint what the cause of the issue is.

More specifically, I would love to see if the issue persists after deactivating JetPack and the test geoloc connectivity plugin.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

    Hi Geoff,

Thanks for getting back so soon, I’m satisfied with the plugging itself, but this issue is something I’ve had trouble solving.

    – I deactivated all of the non WP Pluggins and the location feature still does not find my events.
    – I’ve completed the testing for conflicts procedure without any improvement.
    – When viewing the events list and using the map view, none of them appear there either.
    – There is a clear location on the map when viewing on the single event page.

    – Location is entered by city, for example: London. It then requests I click on London,UK. No event is found in that area.
    – On the events there are valid addresses found on google maps and found on the drop down menu when filling the Location field.

By deactivating JetPack I was happy to see that the Photo view worked perfectly! It will remain deactivated.

    Good evening Juan,

Thank you for running all these tests, it absolutely helps getting closer to the resolution.
Kudos on getting the photo view to work!

Out of curiosity, I did import one of your events to my own calendar to see if I could reproduce the issue.
Unfortunately, I was unable to do so.

So that leads me to a couple of extra questions / recommendations:

    1. Could you, very briefly, use a default WordPress theme such as twenty-fifteen to see if you WordPress is not conflicting with the plugin on that very specific aspect ?
    2. Upon my research, I stumbled upon the following thread. I recommend reading it, since it is very similar to the issue you have been experiencing. To make a long story short, it is not impossible that your webhost is blocking the geolocalisation altogether (it’s certainly worth asking them what their policy on that topic is)

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

This may sound daft but, is my plugin using a Google API or is it using something else?

My hosting platform has asked me to specify this in order to assist me better in the matter.

Would you please clarify the above so I can get back to them.

    On another note:

    1. I have used twenty-fifteen, I was surprise how well my site looked in it, yet the location services still failed. I went a further step, cleared the browser cache and the website cache, I also created new entries with ver easy to find addresses. All unsuccessful.

    2. I am currently dealing with my web host and I will require the answer for the question above to find what the next steps are.

    Thank you.

    Good afternoon Juan,

To answer your question, yes, our plugin uses Google geolocalisation API.

Thank you for trying out twenty-fifteen.

Let me know how that goes with your webhost.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

    Hi,

Unfortunately, it is a shared server and the queries run out quickly. I believe I will need to proceed and install a google geolocation API on my own. Are there any considerations I need to make for it to function properly with your plugin?

    Thanks.

    Hi again,

Will I need a GEO Coding API or a GEO Localization API?

    Many thanks.

I am very sorry, one last question: where should I insert the API Key once I have it? And should it be a server API or a Java API.

    Many Thanks.

    Good afternoon Juan,

I am sorry to hear your shared server quickly runs out of such queries.
I do not mean to be overstepping my place here, but perhaps it would be worth considering a different webhost that does not have such limitations (if the price vs time ratio is right) ?

In any case, here are a couple of answers to your questions.

Are there any considerations I need to make for it to function properly with your plugin?

You might need to leverage the tribe_events_pro_geocode_request_url hook (filter the URL we use to talk to Google) to add your API key into the mix.

Where should I insert the API Key once I have it? And should it be a server API or a Java API ?

Unfortunately, there’s nowhere to insert it as such – we don’t provide any kind of UI – so it would need some coding effort 🙁

As a side note, right now our interactions take place server side, but there’s a plan to move to doing things client/browser-side. If you are going to implement customizations yourself, that’s worth considering primarily because it will often reduce the need for an API key

Let me know if that helps.

    Have a great day!

    Hey Juan,

Alright, keep me posted on your efforts and best of luck on the coding efforts.

That being said, you are absolutely right. Unfortunately, what you are attempting to do falls under customization.
And although we do encourage customization, the scope of our support for it is limited to getting you started on the right track 🙂

    Have a great week,

    Geoff B.

Does your team offer customization? If so, would you be so kind to contact me by email with an estimate?

    Many thanks.

    Hey Juan,

Unfortunately, we don’t tackle customizations ourselves.
But I think you would be well served by one of our recommended customizers .

    Have a great day!
