ParticipantHi,
I just tried to update The Events Calendar to 3.9.1 version and I got a “HTTP 500 – The website cannot display the page”. I didn’t manage to update the PRO version, I started with the free version and now I have no access to WP admin page.
I tried to upload a backup from my cPanel but even though it shows that back was succesful I still got HTTP500 and no access to WP admin.I use “travelify” theme
Appreciate your help as I’m not familiar with HTML etc. Thanks

ParticipantHey,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
I’m sorry you’re experiencing difficulties with using our plugin. Hopefully we can get this sorted out for you quickly. Here are a couple of things to pursue to help get to the root of this issue:
- If you have FTP access, can you try to delete the files manually and see if you’re able to regain access to the admin. You can then reinstall the plugins to see if the issue persists
- Many 500 type errors are server specific (timeouts, insufficient storage, bad gateways etc.). It’s a possibility that you’re current hosting plan may no longer be suitable for your website. You can check your error logs or contact your hosting provider to see if they’re able to give you more specific information regarding the error.
I’m sorry I wasn’t able to give you more information but hopefully this will help to get you pointed in the right direction.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks Josh,
I’m afraid I didn’t manage to manually delete the files from FTP. I’m very new to this and even though I read the step by step instructions I didn’t manage to get access to the various files. If you can help me with more guidance I can try once again.
I don’t think it is a matter of storage etc as the site is quite new and have not yet so much data.Appreciate your assistance as this is the 2nd time in 2 month period that I loose site access.

ParticipantHey!
Thanks for following up with us!
It may be best to reach out to your hosting provider for assistance with accessing your site via FTP. They can ensure (and set up for you) the necessary login information as well as ensure you have proper permissions to modify or delete files on the server. They would also be able to access an error log that may give us more detailed information about what may be causing the current issue.
After reaching out to them, let me know if deleting the files helped or if the issue persisted.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi,
it’s been almost a month and I still have serious issues.
I’ve contacted my hosting provider and they have changed my theme back to basic and deactivated TheEventsCalendar and one more plugin that seemed to have a problem (even though everything was working perctly before the last update).I went back to my admin page and tried to activate my old theme again but it was not working so I’m still using another one until I find a solution. I tried to upgrade the WP version but it is not possible, I’m trying to activate and update TheEventsCalendar but it is not possible either. I deleted TheEventsCalendar and tried to reinstall it from the beginning but again not possible.
I’ve asked more support from my hosting but I’m still waiting for a solution.
If you have any ideas on how this can be solved please feel free to share.February 11, 2015 at 11:17 pm #941859Josh
ParticipantHey travellearner,
I’m sorry you’re still experiencing issues with your site.
When you say that you’re unable to update core, your theme or our plugins is there a specific error message within WordPress that you get or does everything go to a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error? As in you’re unable to do anything via the WordPress dashboard that affects the files on the server without getting the Internal Server Error?
Also, as an additional query, who is your current hosting provider?
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Josh,
Some progress at last!
Looks like my hosting provider (Bluehost) had some issues with the new version of WP and when they solved this I managed to update TheEventsCalendar as well.
Now the problem is that even though my calendar seems ok, when you click on an event it gets you to an Error 404 – Page not found.
Here we go again….February 26, 2015 at 11:52 am #945001Josh
ParticipantHey travellearner,
Awesome! I’m glad you were able to get those other elements worked out with your hosting provider.
For the 404 pages now, have you tried going to the Settings > Permalinks section of your WordPress dashboard and re-saving your permalinks? Depending on the change that was needed for your server, your site might need the rewrite rules flushed and re-saving the permalinks will do this for you.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Josh,
I did the above and also tried to switch back to event and again back to “tribaltect” as advised during same problem in the past but no luck.
(see https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic%2F404-on-events-detail-pages/?source=tri.be#post-919765)any further ideas?

ParticipantHey travellearner,
Thanks for following up with us!
Are you now able to update your Events Calendar PRO to the latest version after the changes made on Bluehost’s side? If so, start by ensuring both The Events Calendar & Events Calendar PRO are updated to the latest versions.
I took a look at the previous thread and wasn’t able to determine from the flow what the ultimate solution was that resolved the 404 errors previously. It looked like at one point there may have been some changes to the site that persisted even after disabling existing plugins. Do you still see the 404 issue after following the Testing for Conflicts procedures?
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantEvents Calendar and PRO have been updated to latest versions as soon as the problem with the WP update was solved.
Still have the 404 issue after testing conflicts procedure. Last time the problem was resolved after I added a snippet you gave me and we changed permalinks to “tribaltect”. I have no idea what exactly was that that made the difference …..
now what?March 9, 2015 at 8:17 pm #947132Josh
ParticipantHey travellearner,
Was this the snippet that you previously had posted to your site https://gist.github.com/elimn/877bc90421526d22900b? Or was it just the diagnostic snippet found here https://gist.github.com/elimn/d3483854e8e9399e449e?
If it wasn’t the first, try adding it to your theme and then flushing your rewrite rules by going to Settings > Permalinks and re-saving those settings. Additionally, we have a 404 diagnostics tutorial that may help. Does anything else show up after following those ideas?
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!
