ParticipantHi,
I received the following message from my website’s host:
“It appears that you have a plugin installed events-calendar-pro
The plugin is creating cron event, tribe_63556_task, which is checking all entries from the plugin. To do that the plugin is hitting the site which maxing out your account’s CPU usage at a 100% constantly.
Unfortunately, we were forced to stop the plugin in order to cancel the cron and prevent further CPU abuse and slow down of your sites, as there wasn’t an option within the plugin’s interface to do that.”
Can this be fixed soon?

KeymasterHi Brad,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
I’m sorry to hear about the issues with the cron.
To be able to support you better, please, share your system information with me in a private reply. Thanks!
Unfortunately I cannot identify the task by only the name of ‘tribe_63556_task’.
Events Calendar PRO runs the following crons:
There is a cron once daily (tribe-recurrence-cron) that will remove past instances of recurring events and creates the future instances of them.
There is one running every 30 minutes (tribe_events_pro_process_recurring_events) that checks and created instances of recurring events, when you create a recurring event. If you are not creating a recurring event, then it doesn’t do anything.
And there is the ‘tribe_common_log_cleanup’ cron that runs daily to do some housekeeping.
If you can tell me which cron you are having trouble with, and can share any other information (error log etc.) connected to this issue, then I might be able to help you further.
Your alternative option would be switching to a higher hosting package or a different hosting provider that gives you more resources. I understand that this might not be a path you can or are willing to take. Please note however, that in order for our plugins to work as intended, more resources might be needed, than provided by some shared hosting options, especially when handling a large number of events.
Cheers,

ParticipantI installed the WP Crontrol plugin to see all cron events for the site. The “tribe_63556_task” event runs hourly.
I found another post at https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/hundreds-of-events-created-for-each-day-of-recurring-event-how-can-i-delete/ that mentions this event. It’s not clear exactly what it does, but it’s some type of cleanup event. Is it needed? Can the event be optimized to use less resources?

KeymasterHi Brad,
Please give me some time while I look into this. I will get back to you as soon as I can.
In the meantime please share your system information with me, as well as a screenshot of that cron.
Thanks,

KeymasterHi Brad,
Thanks for sharing this.
A team mate took a look at your info as well… It looks like there was a big jump in the updates (PRO from 3.6.1 to 4.1.2).
Around that time there were some significant changes made in how recurring events are handled. It might be that something was leftover from the old version. We do not use that cron any more.
For now I would recommend you to simply delete that cron and see what happens.
Also, creating a backup of your database before that is advisable. Just in case.

ParticipantAndrĂ¡s,
I backed up the database then used WP Crontrol to delete the cron. We’ll monitor it for a bit to make sure recurring events are still created. Thanks.

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
