ParticipantHi Geoff,
Small issue (I hope!) regarding translation using WPML
The Month dividers (list view) and also in the mini calendar widget in the sidebar, are not translated into French (and probably other languages)
– How/ why is most of the plugin translated but not the months (kinda crucial for a calendar!)
– I’ve tried to remedy this personally, but anyway I cannot find the strings in WPML to translate them myself
(both in domain “the-events-calendar” and “tribe-events-calendar-pro” – screenshots attached)I don’t mind translating them if necessary but it seems strange that they’re not translated anyway
Whilst on the topic, I have been advised by our French client that the translation for “Previous Events” ( Précédent Événements ) is not correct. Again, I cannot find the string to correct this. It should be Précédents Événements (with an S on precedents)
Thanks! All the best
Greg

MemberGood evening Greg and welcome back!
Thank you for reaching out to us.
I’m sorry to hear that some of the strings are not translated for you.
Normally, that should not be an issue. So let’s try to figure out why that is.
The first thing I am noticing from your screenshots is that it looks like you might need to re-scan the events calendar plugins for strings.
The correct amount of strings should look more like:
- tribe-common 449
- the-events-calendar-pro 442
- the-events-calendar457
Secondly, would you mind providing me with your latest complete system information in a private reply using the instructions found in the following link as well as your staging site’s URL ?
https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/
Finally, if you are looking to use .po and .mo files for our plugins in WPML (instead of translating them by hand), I suggest taking the latest language files from here: http://translations.theeventscalendar.com/projects
The reason for that is that the latest language files are not necessarily always packaged in the plugins’ lang folders.
Whilst on the topic, I have been advised by our French client that the translation for “Previous Events” ( Précédent Événements ) is not correct.
That is absolutely correct. As a native French speaker myself, I would like to see this corrected.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. In the meantime, you should be able to override the translation by either:
- Re-scanning our plugins for translatable strings using WPML’s interface
- Downloading and editing the latest language files found here: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/the-events-calendar/stable/fr/default?page=1 if you plan to use the language files instead of WPML’s string translation interface.
Best regards,
Geoff B.

MemberGood evening Greg,
Thank you for the system information.
Would you mind telling me if the issue persists after trying one of my 2 suggestions ? (depending on your scenario)
Best regards,
Geoff B.

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Sorry it looks like ym reply didn’t send with the system information.
I would prefer to keep all translations performed by WPML to avoid confusion in future.
I’ve tried rescanning the plugin by it does not yield any further results
I’ve raised a ticket with them here if it’s any help?
Best wishes,
Greg

MemberGood evening Greg,
Thank you for your reply.
I believe the suggestion for the WPML team is a great one (upgrading your MySQL and PHP versions).
Let me know how that goes.

ParticipantHi Geoff,
Thank you. We need to migrate servers and upgrade everything anyway so that will hopefully be a good option.
In the meantime, could I please ask you to take over this thread please? It’s about WPML and a fundamental problem with category translation within the Events Calendar.
I have found the support I’ve received there has not been up to the standard I’ve received from yourself. I have asked a few direct questions several times but unforunately the answers have been somewhat obstructive or avoided altogether.
Thank you kindly, best wishes
Greg

MemberGood evening Greg,
Awesome. Let me know when you do upgrade.
I appreciate the great words and I am truly sorry to hear that you have not received answers that were satisfactory to you.
I will discuss this matter with George so that we are on the same page and get back to you.In the meantime, regarding that specific thread, what is going on is that a few of the slugs no longer get translated properly since the latest update.
These include: category, venue and organizer slugs.Simply put, we are working hard at fixing all of these and I personally am not happy about the current state of things as we are trying to increase WPML compatibility, not the other way around.
For now, there are only a handful of ways to correct this (none are perfect unfortunately):
- After a backup, roll back to version 4.1.4 of our plugins
- Remove the category slug translation both from your string translation interface AND in the .po/.mo language file of your secondary language. I have tested this and it works for all 3 faulty slugs. The obvious down side is that these slugs will appear in the wrong language for now
I wish I had a better answer for you, but for now it’s the best one I have.
Hang in there as we get to the bottom of this sticky situation.
Have a great day!
Geoff B.
