ParticipantHI There
My website doesn’t load events. When you click on the event listing page they display but if you want to drill into an event from there the browser just hangs. I have even tried moving to a faster server as I though this was the cause of the issue but it is still not working

Please help!

MemberGood evening Simon and welcome back!
Thank you for reaching out to us.
We are sorry to hear about the server hanging when trying to access a specific event.
I would love to help you with this topic. As a first troubleshooting step, could you please provide us with your system information in a private reply ? (following the instructions found in the link)
Could you also please go through our testing for conflicts procedure (preferably in a staging/dev environment or local install of your WordPress website) and let us know what you find out.
Basically the goal here is to revert back to a bare WordPress installation to see if the problem persists. It also allows us to pinpoint what the cause of the issue is.
Best regards,
Geoff B.

MemberGood afternoon Simon,
Thank your for running all the tests.
The fact that problem still occurs after deactivating the other plugins and reverting back to a default WordPress theme indicate that the issue is elsewhere.
Would you mind going over to your permalink menu (Settings -> Permalinks) and, making sure that the pretty permalinks are activated, hit the Save Changes button. While doing that can you pay special attention to the message you get at the top of the screen and report that message back to me.
Could you also share with me (in a private reply) the content of the .htaccess file of your WordPress installation ?
Best regards,
Geoff B.

MemberGood evening Simon,
Thank you for your answer.
I’m sorry if my last request was slightly unclear.
I believe I have found the cause of your issue.
Could you please go over to: Events -> Settings -> General ?On that page look for the Single event URL slug and change it to “event” not “events”. This slug has to be different than the one above (Events URL slug)
Let me know how that goes.
Best regards,

MemberGood afternoon Simon,
Thank you for changing the single event URL. That will certainly help (even though the results are not there yet).
Thank you also for your invitation to log in. Unfortunately, our policy does not allow us to log in to clients websites for several reasons, including liability.
Also, as an FYI, changing the permalinks to day and name will have no impact on the Events Calendar events URLs.
Simply put, the Events Calendar follows the URL base defined in it’s Events -> Settings -> General tab. That being said, I would recommend re-saving the permalinks after every change to the URL structure AND pay very close attention to the confirmation message when you do so (at the top of the screen). If you see a message that looks like “The permalinks should be updated”, it means that your .htaccess file was not updated properly (usually due to improper permissions). Could you run that test first and report the confirmation message you are getting ?
As per your other comment, normally, the date only gets added in the case of recurring events, as you can see if you go here and hover on the recurring events titles: http://43.241.54.233/~veteranc/event/eastern-goldfieldsbranch-meeting/all/
Here are the next recommended steps (after confirmation that updating the permalink structure works properly):
Can you tell me if you have turned on the Caching options from Wordfence by any chance ? If so, please turn it off for now and clear the cache prior to running additional tests.
- Now that you have the proper single event URL slug, could you please run the
- Could you also please go through our testing for conflicts procedure ?
Let me know how that goes.
Best regards,

ParticipantHi Geoff
I have done everything you mentioned. I have got the events loading by deactivating the Events Calendar Pro plugin!!! I have left if deactivated so you can see for yourself.
We need this plugin active however to use the premium features that we purchased.
I have tried deleting the plugins and reinstalling fresh copies (latest). This didn’t work.
Where to from here??
Cheers

MemberGood afternoon Simon,
Congratulations on finding the culprit!
But, full disclosure, I have searched through all of our bug tickets and ran multiple tests : I could not find any other report of this anywhere.
I also took some time to ask for a second opinion.Based on this (and if I am not mistaking), I believe you are currently running on a temporary server. Can you confirm ?
In other words, do you plan to keep this site on an IP based URL with a subdirectory reference ?The reason I am asking is because the results of my consultation with colleagues is that the Pro plugin will in fact work perfectly in a normal full URL environment (provided the .htaccess is set up properly as well).
Of course, whatever your answer is we’ll be glad to help you to find a solution.
Best regards,
Geoff B.

ParticipantHI Geoff
I duplicated the site to a faster server as I thought this was the cause of the issue. The site is live at the moment at the following domain and I have changed the settings on here to replicate the temporary server.
http://www.veterancarclubofwa.asn.au/events/list/
The problem occurs here as well. I’m getting desperate now. Any ideas?
Cheers

MemberHey Simon,
I’m sorry to hear that didn’t work out for you.
I asked for a second opinion on this to make sure we can figure out what going on.
Here are the recommendations:- Can you take a look at your .htaccess file to ensure any reference to ~veteranc ?
- Would you mind trying to update to version 4.2
- Try changing the single event URL to something different temporarily
- Change the default view temporarily, update and revert back to your default view
Let me know how that goes.
Best regards,
