    Hi Tribe team,

I’m coming up with an error on save (which worked one time),

Here’s the error log from the server:

    Erros is the following:

    ==> /var/www/httpd-logs/webaddress.co.uk.error.log <==

    And import –

Here’s the error message for import (‘webaddress’ swapped in):

Fatal error: Uncaught exception ‘TribeEventsPostException’ with message ‘An error occurred while contacting Eventbrite. Any ideas?

    Cheers,

    Kat

    Hi Kat,

As this relates to Eventbrite I’m going to move it across to the Eventbrite Tickets forum so our expert for that plugin can assist 🙂

    Thanks!

Hi, Kat. Sorry to hear you’re having issues with the Eventbrite add-on.

I’d like to point you to a couple of threads that appears similar to yours.

    Hi Kelly,

Thanks for getting back to me –
I saw those before posting, I did think rocketpop’s situation was very similar, so I edited the name and re-posted the event, this is when the magic happened, and the event was created in Eventbrite, but I’m afraid it didn’t last. I can’t add more tickets or update unless I untick the option to sync with Eventbrite.
There were no apostrophe in the name though.
I’ll try reconnecting… I have a feeling this might work because I installed before the domain had propagated.
I’ll let you know how I get on,

    Cheers,
    Kat

    Hi Kelly,

Re-connecting the Eventbrite API through the profile page has definitely changed something – because the event that I originally posted, looks to have been pulled back in as a draft (now a duplicate of the original). And the original event page in WordPress now has the ticket details. (Hooray!)

But when I click to view the new import, I get the following error message:

Fatal error: Uncaught exception ‘TribeEventsPostException’ with message ‘An error occurred while contacting Eventbrite. Please review your information and try again.Error: name lookup timed out’ in /var/www/katrina/data/www/websiteaddress.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-eventbrite-tickets/lib/eventbrite-api.class.php:76 Stack trace: #0 /var/www/katrina/data/www/websiteaddress.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-eventbrite-tickets/lib/tribe-eventbrite.class.php(1414): EventbriteAPI->sendEventbriteRequest(‘event_get’, ‘id=8698201555’, false, ”) #1 /var/www/katrina/data/www/websiteaddress/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-eventbrite-tickets/lib/tribe-eventbrite.class.php(1679): Event_Tickets_PRO->sendEventBriteRequest(‘event_get’, ‘id=8698201555’, 2328) #2 [internal function]: Event_Tickets_PRO->eventEditMessage(”) #3 /var/www/katrina/data/www/websiteaddress.co.uk/wp-includes/plugin.php(406): call_user_func_array(Array, Array) #4 /var/www/katrina/data/www/websiteaddress.co.uk/wp- in /var/www/katrina/data/www/websiteaddress.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-eventbrite-tickets/lib/eventbrite-api.class.php on line 76

And when I save changes to the original post, I still get the blank screen.

The name is just a standard two word name, no funny characters.
Or do you think it’s because it’s now a duplicate?

    Thanks for your help Kelly!

    Kat

Hi, Kat. I’m glad that we’re making progress, even if we’re not all the way there yet. 🙂

I agree that it’s possible that the issues with the original post may have to do with this being a duplicate. Did you try with a new event?

Also, I see that I failed to ask you earlier if you had tried this in a WP default theme like Twenty Twelve or Twenty Thirteen with all plugins deactivated except for TEC and Eventbrite Tickets. Have you had a chance to do that? If so, did that change the behavior?

Thanks for your patience while we get to the bottom of this!

    Hi Kelly,

I’ve tried adding a new event, and it creates one nicely, and publishes it to Eventbrite, but as soon as I click to edit, I get the following message:

Fatal error: Uncaught exception ‘TribeEventsPostException’ with message ‘An error occurred while contacting Eventbrite. Please review your information and try again.Error: name lookup timed out’ in /var/www/katrina/data/www/websitename.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-eventbrite-tickets/lib/eventbrite-api.class.php:76 Stack trace: #0 /var/www/katrina/data/www/websitename.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-eventbrite-tickets/lib/tribe-eventbrite.class.php(1414): EventbriteAPI->sendEventbriteRequest(‘event_get’, ‘id=8748744731’, false, ”) #1 /var/www/katrina/data/www/websitename.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-eventbrite-tickets/lib/tribe-eventbrite.class.php(1679): Event_Tickets_PRO->sendEventBriteRequest(‘event_get’, ‘id=8748744731’, 2350) #2 [internal function]: Event_Tickets_PRO->eventEditMessage(”) #3 /var/www/katrina/data/www/websitename.co.uk/wp-includes/plugin.php(406): call_user_func_array(Array, Array) #4 /var/www/katrina/data/www/websitename.co.uk/wp- in /var/www/katrina/data/www/websitename.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-eventbrite-tickets/lib/eventbrite-api.class.php on line 76

I’ve tried it in Twenty Twelve (same result), and the only plugins that I have installed at the moment are:
    Akismet
    Cute Slider WP
    Revolution Slider
    The Events Calendar
    The Events Calendar: Eventbrite Tickets
    The Events Calendar PRO
    WordPress SEO (Yoast)

So I tried it with everything apart from the 3 Event Calendar plugins.
It posted an update to the test event (great!).

The added them all back in one by one, and it worked fine.
But I created a new event with Yoast disabled (what I thought was the conflicting plugin), and it gave the following error:

    Array ( [headers] => Array ( [cache-control] => no-cache [connection] => close [content-type] => text/html ) [body] =>

And this within the admin on that event page:

    Error

An error occurred while contacting Eventbrite. Please review your information and try again.
    Status: 400

So I tried the whole thing again – Default theme, and everything off apart from the event calendar plugins, and I can’t publish the new event with full details.

I noticed the title for the event had a colon, so I’ve tried creating a new one without any special characters (just a short two word title). That didn’t make a difference.

So it can’t be the plugins (which are pretty standard anyway) or the theme… I’ve enabled DOM scripting on the server (noticed that helped someone with a similar problem). Is there anything else on the server that could be conflicting/missing? I’m using Ubuntu 10.04 Apache x64

    Thanks,

    Kat

I’m using shortcodes within the event details – just tried it with those completely stripped out. Same result…

    I think I’ve figured it out –
Is there a limit to the amount of text allowed in the content area?

Hi, digitangle. Thanks for all your sleuthing!

I don’t know of any limits myself, but it’s certainly possible. How long is the event description in question?

Also, just so you know, we have had situations in the past where people using HTML that displays fine in WP, but does not follow best practices (like closing all their tags) gets rejected by Eventbrite. Is it possible that you’re being affected by that behavior?

    Hi Kelly,

    It’s kind of intermittent now…
It publishes, although, now I do get the error message:

    Error

An error occurred while contacting Eventbrite. Please review your information and try again.
    Error: name lookup timed out

I think the answer is to completely simplify that page and keep it relatively short with no shortcodes, and move additional information to different page(s).

I’ll disappear for a while while I negotiate that with the client.
    Thanks for your help!
You can close this ticket if you like – I guess it’s a limit enforced by eventbrite rather than a bug with your plugin.
    Cheers,

    Kat

Thanks so much for taking the time to work through this with us, Kat. I’m sorry we weren’t aware of the limitation in the first place.

I’ll go ahead and close this thread now. Please feel free to open a new one if anything else comes up! 🙂
