Any thoughts on how to display a small thumbnail of events (nest three or four) on front-page?
    Thanks

Good evening Mark and welcome back!

Thank you for reaching out to us.
I would love to help you with this topic.

Any thoughts on how to display a small thumbnail of events (nest three or four) on front-page?

You could accomplish that by taking advantage of the Events Calendar Pro’s shortcodes feature:

    1. https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/pro-widget-shortcodes/
    2. https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/embedding-calendar-views-tribe_events-shortcode/

Depending on what you are looking for, you might have to add some CSS rules to get the display precisely to your liking.

Let me know if that helps.

    Have a great day!

Thanks Geoff. Would you say it’s relatively straightforward to set up?
I’ll have a go trying to suss it out today, perhaps you’ll be able to help if get stuck?
    What do you think?

    Geoff
    It’s at the footer:

    Home

What would be good is be able to slim it down. No calendar (the month) and not additional displayed dates to the left i.e. just the list of events with dates?
    How is this/is this poss?

Think the front-page isn’t set up for some things but even as sits but more compact and ‘tribe-this-week-front-end’ look. Ideally vertical side-bar or even modifications on current look and more compact horizontal?
    Any thoughts

    Hey Mark,

Thank you for getting back to us and kudos on trying out different implementations.

As you can see, it is fairly easy to put in place.

You should also know that it is possible to customize just about any view (including shortcodes and widgets) using our themer’s guide. This allows you to loosely borrow the code from other views if you need.

You might want to read our Themer’s guide to get a sense of how that works.

Let me know if you need a hand to get this to look slightly different.

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.

One initial question. Can the front-page display be set to hide events that cover a number of days and therefore dominate the display? Perhaps ‘Show only the first upcoming instance of recurring events’?

    Good evening Mark,

Can the front-page display be set to hide events that cover a number of days and therefore dominate the display?

We have a similar feature that impacts the list view under Events -> Settings -> General.

We also have a snippet that does that for the photo view: https://gist.github.com/niconerd/e8efdd5a0a8d621e6b0ebeb699ef7413

I believe you could adapt and apply the following snippet in the functions.php file of your theme (without the PHP tag at the top).

Let me know if that helps.

    Have a great day!

Might still get some further assist if ok.
Can repeated events be limited to first one i.e. Show only the first upcoming instance of recurring events? on front page version?

The short answer is yes, but as previously stated, this will require a bit of customization on your end.

In your case, that means adding a customization to the “This week’s events” widget.

Basically, you have to find a way to include the post_parent value of zero in your customization (as you can see in the previous snippet). You might want to read our Themer’s guide to get a sense of how that works.

Just to set expectations, the scope of our support is mostly to get our customers started on the right track and to help them in case of issues.

We unfortunately do not provide complete support for customization.

If coding is not really your cup of tea, you could always hire one of our recommended customizers to do the customization for you.

I wish I had a better answer for you, but for now it’s the best one I have unfortunately.

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.
