    Hello,

I am new to the support forums, I thought I would share this hiccup we are having with Events Cal Pro.

Every month we upload an excel CSV file that contains a list of events that we need to post, there are about 25 events for each spreadsheet, and there are 6 sheets every month. The problem we are having is that some events do not post at all, and the venue is not properly displayed. For some reason, the events that are successfully imported have the venue “Unnamed Venue” and do not contain the proper address. This is a significant setback for our organization, as we have to manually import these events until we can get this sorted out.

For more information, we have been successfully importing these events up until about two months ago, when the first issue was noticed.

I have attached an example CSV file that we use.

Thank you for your help and continued support.

Good evening Tony and welcome back!

Thank you for reaching out to us.

We are sorry to hear about the issue you are experiencing with importing the events correctly.
I would love to help you with this topic.

As a first troubleshooting step, could you please provide us with your complete system information in a private reply using the instructions found in the following link?

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/

I ran some tests with the file that you gave me.

It looks like, by default, the calendar imports the first event of a same name series and applies every following event of that same name series as an update.

Can you confirm that after an CSV import:

    • You see only 1 event per same-name series (e.g.: Assess Your Skills – West Orange) ?
    • The start date and end date are inaccurate for that single remaining event ?

I will open a ticket for this as I believe this is a bug in the way the CSV import engine operates. We apologize for the inconvenience this is causing.

Short term, changing the title slightly in same-name events OR breaking the csv import files to multiple files that do not contain same-name events would solve that part of the issue.

and the venue is not properly displayed.

Can you confirm if you have already created or imported the Venues prior to importing the events (as explained here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/using-the-events-calendars-csv-importer/) ?

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work this through.

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.

    Good evening Tony,

Thank you for writing back and for the system information.

Please keep me updated on the status of the bug submission, as it is not possible for us to have different named events. We need to keep them all the same. I hope this isn’t too big of a problem, as we would like to continue using this calendar solution.

Currently, the bug is open and undergoing the maintenance release cycle.

As a side note, using the latest versions of our plugins (including Filter Bar 4.2.1) and a default WordPress theme, I was able to import the CSV file correctly.
So the good news is that this is totally solvable. As we would like you to continue using our plugins as a calendar solution.

However, I did notice that there is a glitch in the CSV file you handed me. The first row contains only commas (instead of column titles), so I had to delete the first row prior to running the CSV import.

Here are the next steps I would recommend:

    1. Could you either update or deactivate the Filter Bar plugin ?
    2. Try the import again with the current settings under Events > Import : Default status = pending, Default encoding = encode contents
    3. If that still does not work. Could you also please go through our testing for conflicts procedure (preferably in a staging/dev environment or local install of your WordPress website) and let us know what you find out. Basically the goal here is to revert back to a bare WordPress installation to see if the problem persists. It also allows us to pinpoint what the cause of the issue is.

    Best regards,

    Geoff B.
