I have a couple of issues regarding using the ‘ghost’ pages for the Community Events. I’m calling your default permalink locations ‘ghost’ pages because there isn’t anywhere that I can control the content.

    1. I want to restrict viewing the submit events pages to logged in users. Using WordPress pages makes this easy.
    2. With the ‘ghost’ pages, I can’t apply custom templates or layouts. This would be helpful for changing header information, sidebar information, etc.

    Thanks,
    Doug

    Hi Doug,

Thanks for using our plugins. I can help out here.

It is indeed true we setup our templates ourselves and so they are archives instead of pages.

I can help on your issues even thought this is the case, first.

    1. I want to restrict viewing the submit events pages to logged in users. Using WordPress pages makes this easy.

We already have this built in. Head to your admin, then to this setting: Events > Settings > Community > “Allow anonymous submissions” make sure that is unchecked and only logged in users will be able to see the form.

As for making edits to the templates.

    2. With the ‘ghost’ pages, I can’t apply custom templates or layouts. This would be helpful for changing header information, sidebar information, etc.

Have you tried changing the Events Template in the settings?

    Head to this page:

Events > Settings > Display Tab

    Then change this setting:

Events Template to Default Page Template

That can help change the template used by all the event templates.

You can also follow our themer’s guide:

    https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/themers-guide/

To move event templates to your theme to safely edit there.

I also encourage you to check out our new user primer to see how all the settings work:

Let me know if you have any follow up questions.

    Thanks

I have been trying to make changes in the templates as suggested. I copied all of the Community Events files into my child theme.
    my-theme/tribe-events/community/src/views/community/edit-event.php (etc.)

When I make changes, they aren’t showing on the pages.

    Hi,

You should drop the src and views from the directory, try this:

    my-theme/tribe-events/community/edit-event.php
