I see that although the above event is public, it is not accessible when I am not logged in to facebook. Also, it is created by facebook user profiles that I am not friends with, and not by a page. Can that be the problem? I will try to add the creators as friends to see if that makes any difference.
Is it perhaps possible to post a list of conditions for events that the plugin can import?
January 9, 2013 at 5:11 am #30487SababaMemberUpdate: being friends with the organizers, and even being added to the event as host, does not make a difference. Apparently the problem is that the event is created by a person, not a page. Is that correct?
January 9, 2013 at 6:38 am #30495BarryMemberSababa: I think that’s a quite different issue. To avoid confusing this thread could I ask you to go ahead and create a new thread to accommodate this problem?
January 10, 2013 at 2:27 am #30557SababaMemberHi Barry, I think you are right. I will try to study the FB-graph API before I start a new thread. You can remove my posts here if you want to avoid confusion.
January 10, 2013 at 7:01 am #30560BarryMemberCheers Sababa. I’ll leave your posts in the thread unless/until another team member can remove them – there’s a bug with the forum software that doesn’t always allow for easy removal of posts in a thread.
January 11, 2013 at 6:25 am #30627BarryMemberHi Anne – sorry for the further delay. I know the devs were all tied up yesterday but I’ve left a further message and hopefully we can progress this a little more shortly.
January 14, 2013 at 7:14 pm #30814AnneParticipantStill hoping for some help with importing FB events. 🙂
January 14, 2013 at 7:29 pm #30815BarryMemberI’m really sorry Anne: I’m trying to get the attention of the team member best placed to look at this, but unfortunately it’s a busy time and he may simply not have bandwidth right now – but please bear with us and I’ll do my best to have this issue addressed.
January 18, 2013 at 5:24 am #31097BarryMemberHi Anne – our developer Tim is looking at this now and should be in touch with you shortly 🙂
Thanks again for your patience!
January 18, 2013 at 9:31 am #31125AnneParticipantI’m very happy to hear that. I am working on the website all day today. I can create him a temp account, if he needs one.
January 18, 2013 at 10:25 am #31129FlorisParticipantMeanwhile, I had to launch the website I was working on. I’ve cloaked it’s domain to the dev server and removed the non working install. I’ll setup a new instance once a fix is provided.
January 22, 2013 at 11:10 am #31373BarryMemberHi folks, just checking in with the developer to see what progress has been made and I’ll update you again as soon as I can. Thanks again for your patience!
January 24, 2013 at 10:12 am #31534BarryMemberHi Anne, Floris.
This has of course dragged on a lot longer than is ideal and as you can probably guess that’s because we’ve been stretched a bit too thin over the last few weeks. That isn’t your problem but it has obviously affected both of you so please accept our apologies.
We’ve arranged for our dev Tim to look into this and he ideally needs to be able to access an affected installation first hand. He would also need details of a Facebook event that exhibits this problem (Anne, I believe the event you originally referenced has been deleted/has expired).
So, if one or both of you could provide access – (S)FTP details and an administrative WordPress login – and also provide details of a current Facebook event that causes this issue then that would be excellent. We will then endeavour to provide a response within 48hrs to allow Tim a chance to investigate.
So, if you’re up for that, please contact us by email ([email protected]) with the information requested above. Please also:
- Include a link to this thread in your email and mark the subject FAO Barry/Tim
- As a precaution, back up your site first of all and make sure you know how to restore that back up in the event something does go wrong
And we’ll take things from there – quite possibly Tim will email you directly after he’s got your details.
Thanks so much for all your patience.
January 30, 2013 at 7:28 pm #31844Timothy WoodParticipantAfter digging into more specifics relating to the reason the events were not importing it was found that Windows Azure disabled cURL functionality within the PHP modules and with this being disabled we are not able to interact with the Facebook API. It wasn’t any specifics related to the event or type of creation but rather the fact the server prevents the code from reaching out via cURL.
January 31, 2013 at 10:21 am #31876BarryMemberThanks Tim!
Anne: following on from Tim’s input it would seem that, unfortunately, our plugin is not compatible with the Windows Azure platform (unless there is a means of changing its configuration, however we can’t really advise you about that).
With that in mind I can really only suggest a possible move to a different hosting environment at this stage, I’m afraid (again, unless you can work with an Azure rep or other specialist who can reconfigure things appropriately).
If you have any further comments or feedback it would be great to hear from you – otherwise I’ll mark this thread as closed since, regrettably, I don’t think there are many other avenues to explore at this stage.
