Automated Emails not being generated for Events since Woo Commerce update 3.1

This issue has already been reported to Woo Commerce, and seems to be a common problem with other users – see this thread: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/email-not-sending-30/page/2/#post-9280002

Emails can only be generated via Manual orders, not automated. So we are currently having to trigger manual emails for all customer orders received on our website.

We checked our PHP Error Log since 28th June, which was the last time automated emails were generated. The only errors listed related to Tribe Events, which is why we are posting here, in the hope of finding a fix.

We are sorry to hear about the tickets no longer being sent on your site. Yikes!
I would love to help you with this topic.

The first thing I would recommend is to update all of your extensions to the latest versions.
The tricky thing with extensions is that they do not “update notices” automatically.

You literally have to check manually.

For example, you will need to update to version 1.01 of Event Tickets Plus Extension: Enhance Woo Order Templates 

Secondly, could you try temporarily deactivating WooCommerce Order Status Control to see if that helps ?

Normally, tickets are now sent based on the settings found under Events -> Settings -> Tickets (at the bottom of the page).

We tried all of the suggestions in your email. We are already updated with all of our plugins and themes, including Event Tickets Plus Extension: Enhance Woo Order Templates. We also tried deactivating Woo Commerce Order Status Control plugin and ran a test order after that, but the PHP error remains.

Thank you for writing back.
I am glad that things started working again on your end.

Let’s now tackle the error messages you are getting.

By the sound of it, it looks like there is some type of conflict at play.
This is usually because of:

1. A conflict with another plugin
2. A conflict with your WordPress theme
3. A template customization for the Events Calendar that requires updating

When it comes to that type of issue, it is preferable to troubleshoot in a staging environment if you have one.

A first quick test is to simply temporarily revert back to a default WordPress theme such as twenty-sixteen to see if the issue persists.

The next step would be to go through our testing for conflicts procedure and let us know what you find out.

Basically the goal here is to revert back to a bare WordPress installation to see if the problem persists. It also allows us to pinpoint what the cause of the issue is.

But, before you do that, there are 2 things I would advise:

1. Make a backup of your database
2. Consider activating a “Maintenance Page” plugin if you are doing this on your live site (to minimize impact on your visitors)

Could you also tell me which version of Divi you are using and could you please send me a copy of the latest version of your child theme via a link to a .zip file link (stored Dropbox or Google Drive) so that I can run some tests on my end ? I recommend a private reply for that purpose.

Please ensure you are using the latest files as found on your actual website.
This way I will get access to any updates or customizations you might have made.

Update:

FYI: Woo Commerce suggested deactivating all the Events plugins to see if the errors remained. So I tried it and the errors remained on the CheckOut page.

Good afternoon Carole,

It’s hard to say exactly why the Checkout field editor is causing issues. But, I am pretty confident that WooCommerce will tackle that bug.

As you can see, this literally has nothing to do with our plugins.

I also did look at the PHP log.

The following is actually not an error message

Other than that, I could not see much pertaining to our plugin’s behaviour. But maybe you did ?

Either way, as stated before, I would suggest a couple of things:

1. See if the checkout field plugin conflicts when reverting back to a default WordPress theme such as twenty-sixteen
2. See if you still have the issue with the emails not being sent when using the cheque payment gateway.

Something else worth experimenting with is getting rid of all of the WooCommerce add-ons temporarily and slowly reactivating them to see how the behaviour changes.

The reason that I am bringing this up is because WooCommerce updates are often released.
Although this is great, sometimes it takes a while for the other plugins and extensions to catch up.

One thing that is totally worth a shot is to try to change your settings under Events -> Settings -> Display for Events Template to see if that changes anything.

Thanks for your help Geoff. We reported it to Woo but no fix to date. But at least we are receiving Emails, so that issue is resolved.

It seems there is some kind of issue with Events Register and counts being off. I reported it in another thread here: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/issues-with-registers-attendee-count/#post-1319692

Shelby is handling it and asked for the link to this thread, which I’ve given her.
