    Hello,

I’m guessing there has not been any movement on this, given the last responses and the status of my feature request:

Map Zoom Not Working / Center of Zoom Possible?

    http://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/9858150-allow-an-initial-map-zoom-with-initial-centering-p

However, I still thought I’d write in to check! As noted, I would really love to have control over the initial map view zoom level. Right now it automatically pans back to include all events. In our case, this makes the majority of the events not visible. I’d rather focus in on the majority of the events vs. panning back to let a few outliers be seen. You can see for yourself how this is not ideal here: http://www.ggtakeover.com/events/

Is there any way to interact with the map with jQuery? Wondering if there’s any way to call a zoom after the ajax load has completed.

It seems like a person could update the map with the Google Maps setZoom function… if I only I could figure out how to access the map (I was looking at your js map code).

    Hey @Courtney!

I’m sorry to bear two pieces of bad news here, the first being that no there unfortunately has been progress towards the specific feature request you linked to. The second piece of bad news is that, while yes there may be ways to interact with maps via jQuery and wire up your own AJAX functions and such, that is not something we can assist with 🙁

For customizations like those, you’d have to write all of the code yourself and/or hire a professional to help you, like one of the developers on this page for example → http://m.tri.be/18k1

    Sorry to disappoint!

    Sincerely,
    George

This would be very useful. My map zooms so far out it actually repeats itself (I have two North Americas, two Asias, etc.) on initial map view — see http://ageekmom.com/events/ — and if the map zoom function actually behaved as I thought it did (across all the maps, not just the individual events’ maps) I could zoom it in one step and solve the issue.

Yeah, that’s odd! I am still hoping this is a feature that can be added sooner than later. My client is in the middle of their events right now and it would benefit them greatly if you could visually more of the events in the initial view.

    Hey Shannon,

I’m sorry to hear that your maps start out zoomed out to such an extreme scale; that is not normal, and it seems like there could be other issues on your site influencing this.

Your theme could be a culprit here, and it also might be the case that your events don’t have their latitude and longitude being properly generated. If this is something you’d like to explore, open up a new thread here on this site with that same link to your events page and your site’s “System Information” (https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/sharing-sys-info/).

As for this feature itself, we agree with you that better control over these would be handy. It’s a bit tricky to pull off, but is something we’re working on nonetheless. I’m sorry that the ETA is so ambiguous 🙁 I do not know when we will have these features improved sufficiently to be released in a plugin update.

I appreciate your feedback and patience with this!

    Cheers,
    George
